    Groves

Groves was not incorporated until the late 40s or early fifties. Incorporation came about in order to block part of Groves being annexed by Port Arthur. I think the city limits were set to be the boundaries of the existing water district. Evidently, the water district kept the refinery out...

    PN-G @ Huntsville

I saw that game. Hollis Slaughter was the quarter back. That was the undefeated season.

I remember John Devillier from my time. Excellent writer. If I remember correctly his younger brother ( don't remember his name) also joined the Port Arthur News.

Great win! Ideally, we need at least one more receiver like Nunley and more speed in the defensive backfield.

    Old Port Neches

Does anybody remember Deafy"s Pool Hall? That's where we hung out in my day. Beat up tables and it cost a nickel to play eight ball.

    Kindergarten

Just curious. Does PN-G have kindergarten now? If yes, when did it start?

    TPC

When we moved to Groves in the summer of '43, after a few months you didn't smell the background odor any more. Only newcomers noticed it.

    Realignment

In '52 and '53 bi district was against Temple. Back then they flipped a coin to see which school would be the location for the game. We lost the coin flip in '52 and won all three flips in '53. Played bi district, regional and state final in Port Neches.
