Will Texanlive be broadcasting home games for district’s teams again this year? Can’t find any info about this.

Thanks. Trying to decide whether to subscribe monthly. I live out of town, so it would be worth it if they are covering most of the PNG games like they did last year but not if they will not be.

Same here. I typically subscribe for the scheduled games and then drop it as soon as the last game is played.

It looks like Texan Live will not be broadcasting any live football varsity games this year or they haven't put up a schedule yet which would be odd since we are 5 days away from football season kickoff. Any thoughts?

Exactly the puzzle I started this thread to address. I was able to determine that the UIL will still allow live broadcasts of Friday night games this year, so I assumed they would be broadcasting the home games for most of the teams in the district like they did last year. However, when I checked the Texanlive website there was no mention of them broadcasting any live games whatsoever (you would think they would want to advertise this). Moreover, unlike last year, I could find no discussion about this issue on any local message boards that discuss high school football. Since I do not live anywhere near the area, in my case it would be worth the monthly subscription price if, like last year, it allows me to watch almost all of the PNG games during the season. However, I would otherwise consider it a waste of money. But here it is less than a week before the first game and there is no info available about which, if any, games they will be covering from our district this season.

One possible bit of information that may be helpful is that if I recall correctly they did not typically release the official weekly schedule until a few days before the first game of the week, so maybe we will finally get some idea what might be going on at the last minute this coming week. However, last year they made some kind if announcement even prior to the season that they would be covering all home games for all of the teams in the district with the exception of Nederland (they apparently had someone else broadcasting their games). This meant that a monthly subscription would give you all of the district games except Nederland (which ultimately ended up also being on Texanlive) plus all of the pre-district home games. This was worth the monthly subscription price in spite of the terrible reception issues on some of the earlier PNG home games, but at this point I have no idea whether they plan to have a similar broadcast schedule this year.

Could be logistics and manpower that might limit coverage.

Why let TexanLive benefit financially? There are viable options and opportunities for the district to manage it's own sports streams and recordings and monetize the content. A combination of existing resources, technologies and platforms, and perhaps making that part of the excellent high school media program they are building has great possibilities. Reasonably priced camera systems exist that follow the action and do not require human operation. They would just need to identify some play by play broadcasters to call the games. Focus on the game and mix in some relevant sport history or talk and less on mentioning friends and who’s listening or watching would be ideal. I would subscribe.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine is now partnered with TexanLive. It’s not clear if DCTF will be a major factor in game scheduling decisions.

DCTF does mention that upcoming games will be listed here:

I saw on Facebook from the PNG Press that this game will be covered on TexanLive. Just an FYI for those of us "out of towners."

And it is now officially on the TexanLive webpage.

Despite the lack of advertisement, this looks to be an early indication that they will follow the same schedule as last year. I will therefore subscribe then drop it if they do not follow through with that plan. However, I agree 100% with IndianFan that PNG should be taking over the broadcasts, as many other high schools in Texas have already done. This has produced much higher quality broadcasts in other markets I have happened to sample, and with the added benefit of commentary by local folks. I also agree that the current radio broadcasts could stand some improvement. In any case, I would personally pay what Texanlive is charging for the PNG games alone, even if (after) the UIL reinstates the prohibition against live broadcasts of Friday night games (i.e., just to watch the replays), particularly if they broadcast all of the away games as well as the home games.

My only thought is that PNG is listed as a "school" on TexanLive which I would presume means "partner." Hopefully the district is receiving some sort of revenue generation (or compensation) from TexanLive based upon views/subscriptions to PNG games. And with so many out of town folks that still bleed purple and are loyal to the program, PNG would seemingly draw a good number of viewers.

With that being said, I agree that the school could do a really good job of producing the games. See what PAM did for games and using YouTube last season. However, it may require a considerable up front investment.
