They are to discuss Baseball and Softball Bleacher Proposal at the next board meeting Thursday. This proposal includes new bleachers at the softball and baseball fields. It also includes covering of the bleachers. I have attached the links to the board agendas.

I know the main concern is the bleachers. The scoreboard and P.A. system is really in bad shape. Many times last year both would not work.A new scoreboard would be a drop in the bucket compared to the price tag of new covered bleachers. We need both!!!Hopefully some of these issues can be taken care of before the season starts.

There was extensive conversation about the bleachers at the school board meeting. All were in agreement that something be done about the bleachers as they are in disrepair. The baseball bleachers were constructed with I-beams and considered strong still and maybe they can just replace the bleachers. The softball bleachers were constucted with angle iron and all this has to be replaced. Need for scoreboards were discussed and they want them, but have to be confident that the funds are there at this time. The time constraints were discussed and Ms. Hernandez says that they can be done before the season starts again. Lets all keep our fingers crossed.

I don't understand why the bleachers need to be covered? If it is that much of an expense then cut it because to me it isn't needed. If it is too hot then bring an umbrella.

The bleachers used on the softball field used to be along the baselines in the baseball field. I could see that those are beyond improving. Plus they look like junk.

The baseball bleachers are seriously heavy duty and probably much better quality than the infrastructure of the new ones. Those old ones will probably outlast any of us (unless they're rusting through, etc).

Seems like they could replace the old wooden seating with aluminum, add some rails and maybe a new press box, and it would be nice. The cover seems like a luxury item.

I did not attend the school board meeting last night, but I am told that they discussed exactly what IndianFan suggested. Keeping the frame for the boys and completely replacing the girls.

Umbrellas would not be a good idea. Imagine trying to watch a football game and everyone has his own umbrella. Can you imagine the complaining????

I do, however, believe that there has to be cheaper priced stands out there.

Just what they discussed.

There are a number of items that need to be taken care of before the season starts.Yes the bleachers are the #1 item on the list.Retro fitting the existing bleachers with aluminum seats and steps and taking out the stadium seats on each side and replacing them with more metal bleachers would be cost effective. The scoreboard and P.A. system is embarrassing for a high profile 4a school, sometimes it works sometimes not.Another major problem is the drainage in left and right field, with the improvements of the tennis courts and hitting facility water gets trapped in these areas.Last year we were rained out when the other teams in the district were playing. This is an easy fix. This is only a few items of a long list that needs to be fixed before the season.Hopefully these items can be addressed soon so it does not interfer with the season.

I would think if they left the stadium seats and put the bleaches behind them it might be cost effective. I personally like sitting in those seats.

I hear that some parent's are having to cut the grass at the baseball field and I heard that the school doesn't want to spend the money on the infield as they have in year's past. Is this a rumor or is there truth to this? Surely we have someone employed with the district that can mow the grass.

we have not heard that at the softball field. Someone was out there last week, Thursday morning. I assume he was with the district because he had the buildings open, including the door to the men's restroom.

Last year the maintenance people did get our field ready for the seaon. The year before, the parents and players had to paint the dugouts, clean, and cut grass.

The grass cutting situation at the baseball field has been taken care of by the admin.and hopefully soon the fields will be getting a much needed facelift.

From reading the Board agenda for this past week they were looking into hiring a utility/landscapping person.

ANY WORD ON THE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL FIELDS?
Yes. The new aluminum seating at the baseball field and new aluminum bleachers and seating at the softball field are projected to be finished by February. The next priority is the new scoreboard and PA systems (I think at both fields but I'm not sure so don't quote me on that). They are going to hire the people necessary to keep the fields done right AND be sure that the grass at all campus' is maintained. IMO, this is a need that has to be addressed. Kudos to the new administrators and board members for addressing all the citizen's concerns. At least they listen to the citizens and, if possible, remedy any problems.
