This article is dated , but it spotlights one of the greatest coaches to ever set foot on The Reservation.

May God continue to bless Coach Troy.

One of the most talented offensive line coaches. His offensive lines of 1974-1977 were small by today’s standards. This was the biggest high school classification in the state of Texas. Equivalent to 6AD1 today. The 2024 PNG offensive line would dwarf them in size but not in heart. However they handled the Houston Yates, Houston Kasmere, Houston Wheatley schools in their prime days with defensive players that went on to play in the NFL.

Coach Troy was THE best offensive line coach. The 70s was a different era before growth hormone fed beef and other diet factors caused kids to grow so much. And kids back then were generally not overweight so much. 170-180 was a normal sized lineman at PNG. 200+ was big. 250+ was a freak of nature. A few tall players like Carl Belotti approached 220-230 back then. Cooley and Kern were 200-205 maybe but they were dominant. Coach Troy focused on technique which the benefit of never goes out of style. Technique can overcome a size disadvantage.

I have to give the current offensive line coach praise for the development of #75 Ace Reeves sophomore left guard who started in the Kaufman game. Excellent foot work and quick to trap made the run game excel. #75 had an excellent game performance. What a “gem” to have in the future.
