Coach Watson: One of the greatest PN-G Indians of all time. He was a kind and honorable man. He was one of many PN-G Indians in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s that laid the foundation for PN-GISD and its core values of HONOR, PRIDE and TRADITION. RIP and prayers to the Watson family. A sad day on The Reservation.

Go Indians. Peace.

Born in 1930, a young man playing for the Port Neches Indians in 1946-47, one of the great head coaches in PNG history from 1965-1972, a respected administrator, and a lifetime fixture in his community.

Life and time is fleeting. Rest in peace Coach. You made an amazing difference in many young lives, and exemplified honor.

I was in high school during the time that he was the head coach. One kinda funny thing I remember is that his nickname for many of us was "The Jaw". One other side note is that his daughter bought the house I was raised in after my Mom passed away in 1986.

In retrospect, I didn't fully appreciate how successful he was as a coach at the time. He only won one district championship and it seemed like we lost (often barely) almost every critical game. Several heartbreaking losses for a diehard Indian fan like myself. However, PN-G finished in 2nd place 6 of the other 7 years that he was head coach. With a few breaks, we could have been district champs and in the playoffs 7 of the 8 years in the Watson era. He also was one of the first high school coaches to implement the Wishbone offense, which happened to fit the running style of Jeff Bergeron perfectly. His overall record was 59-19-3, a 70+ win percentage. Great coach, great man.

Reading about his life, it strikes me as a true example of success. He enjoyed his career, was greatly respected and appreciated, and spent his life in a community he loved, surrounded by friends and family. If only we could all achieve that. The pursuit and capture of fame or money doesn't guarantee any of the above.

He was a man of dignity. He lead in life by example. Period. Literally lead by example.
