The magazine predictions were never very accurate, but dang was it entertaining to read that magazine. Especially pre-internet. Football fans waited for that thing all year and it wasn't uncommon to drive all over town looking for one on the magazine stands.

For example the 1972 season and the #1 ranked PN-G Indians

Interesting that the prediction ended up playing out a few years later, when we did end up beating Lee a couple of times in the semifinals.

Great point.

In '72 Baytown Sterling would take out SA Lee 21-20 in the semifinals. And Odessa Permian beat Sterling 37-7 for the state championship title that year.

Much like PNG, the early through late 70's were a period of 'glory years' for Lee, winning the SC in '71 and advancing to the semi finals in '72-75-77. PNG shut them out in '75 and '77 in the semi final game.

Lee also reached the finals in '65 and '69, losing both. Imagine the frustration. They have made the playoffs only 3 years since 1977.

Also frustrating during the era of Jeff Bergeron was that we could never get past the Lincoln Bumblebees featuring the Washington family. The greatest Lincoln teams ever.
