That is awesome. High profile indeed. But hoping that every measure is taken to keep JJ , MM and others happy to be in Port Neches.

Advantages in PN/Groves:
Small town(s)
Better place than many to raise kids
Outdoor activities
One high school
Support, spirit and fan following as good as any place
Rich history and tradition to add to
Winning attitudes
Decent facilities
AD role for Jeff Joseph ( not possible in Katy)

An indoor practice facility with a larger weight room would really benefit all the school sports programs, band and community. I still dream of major donors getting together and helping out. Great alumni like Wade Phillips could really make an impact.

Like I’ve said before somewhere here

At Texas High we had a turfed and lined indoor football practice facility since the (I believe) late 70s (maybe earlier) no AC just massive fans near the roof (we called it the barn)
(It was older in 84) included a netted FG “post” built into the wall almost like the arena FB goals
It was maybe 50 yards long I believe
Since then (early 2000s) they’ve built a brand new one - I would think they were one of the first HSs to have it
To me it seems like such an easy thing to have The only problem is in super bad weather you still had to walk the sidewalk from the field house to the barn
Which if there was lightning they wouldn’t sometimes let us make that walk which defeated the purpose.

Perfect opportunity to bring it up again. The topic of an indoor facility has been talked about on this message board since at least 2010 when I posted some thoughts on the potential including a possible location which I later heard was deemed not possible because of pipelines or utilities running under that area.

Our latest round of discussion was in 2023.

Maybe no one ever reads these discussions on here that have a lot of influence. But what if they do? (And I think they do.).

Past experiences have proven that even one of us taking action can result in amazing things happening. That was the case 2+ years ago and 2 state championship games later we have seen the dreams revived. That all started with a simple email and hope.

So let’s keep talking about it. Dreams CAN come true.

Absolutely! I have NO DOUBT Coach Wade Phillips and other notable Alumni would help with funding. Heck, I’m FB friends with Laurie Phillips and she always likes or comments whenever I post about PNG, Coach Wade and Bum so I certainly wouldn’t mind sending her a message to pass on to Wade about this. Like I’ve said…if you never ASK, the answer will ALWAYS be NO! However, location to build it could be the road block so that would need to be determined before reaching out for funding.

Next best spot might be the soccer field where the band practices. Maybe even build a covered walkway over there.

Also sell pavers or bricks with memorial names engraved to build some type of pavilion area or walkway outside the building. Or a vertical wall with engraved names of people or families that are honored, and corporate contributors. There could be levels of contribution. Many possibilities.

The facility could be named after the primary donor. Either corporate or a family name. Phillips Indoor Practice Facility would have a nice ring wouldn’t it?

Absolutely!! The band primarily practices on the other field next to Park St so I think the Soccer field is an excellent option. With excitement at an all time HIGH, now is definitely the time to revisit the idea. I know a “band kid” in here that is a EXCELLENT communicator and would be a GREAT person to submit a letter or assemble a group to present these ideas to the School Board

We had the funding at one time. Donated by local businessmen. The location to build was unable to be used due to underground piping from the refineries.

There was some funding but only for a 35 yard field covered by a metal building. Not worth it. And it was going to be where the buses are now parked.

The 50 yard facility as originally envisioned would have cost $1.2-1.6 million which was 2-3 times the amount they had.
