Defense

One observation is that the defense is often in position to stop a ball carrier. Often times there are multiple defensive players within range for a tackle. But the tackles are missed. That indicates that the defensive strategy may not be all that bad, and the players are making the effort to get to the ball. But the final job of making the tackle needs some work. What’s the best way to solve and improve that? ;)

Bring back "Shotgun Alley" a/k/a The Oklahoma Drill or as former PN-G coach Jerry Hopper (RIP) used to call it, "the Nutcracker." Have them play Texas Basketball with no limit on fouls. Finish off practice with the Circle Drill and then gassers. I doubt you could get away with those drills in 2020. I'm guessing someone's mother would be calling the UIL.

Go Indians. Peace.

Shotgun Alley was where it was at! I remember in ‘99 we worked on tackling drills all throughout the year it seemed, no matter if we were in the regular season or playoffs. Just those constant routine drills got us used to putting the ‘head across the bow,’ etc. Physicality was the name of our game; we made sure everyone remembered who they played when they got up the next morning.

The scout team is also where you get a chance to PROVE yourself - opportunities are there. When I played, getting to go against the first string O meant I had the opportunity to put said “chosen ones” on their backs - I did - and I made varsity because of it

I remember training room being full on Saturday morning getting treatment after the game Friday nights. Don’t see that kind of physical game anymore
