I hope all of you are doing well. I'm sure we can all agree that life has become surreal at best with this virus outbreak. And we all have a heightened degree of uncertainty and concern, as well as a newfound appreciation for the common things we might have taken for granted.
It's encouraging to see families and friends pulling together to support one another, even if that must be done at a distance. It is also uplifting to see our government recognizing the economic devastation that temporary loss of jobs and income will inevitably cause, and taking measures to offer some relief with tax payment deferrals and stimulus packages. And I pray that corporate America will realize that customer and employee loyalty is ultimately more important than quarterly financial results. Stand behind your employees in time of need and don't make their lives exceedingly more difficult with loss of job and income.
It's too early to understand the full impact, duration or end result of this developing event. I suspect with the many Hollywood TV and big screen productions like Walking Dead, Fear of the Walking Dead, I Am Legend, Contagion, The Stand, and other post apocalyptic focused fictional works, our minds and imaginations are well primed to imagine the worst. Even more frightening is the thought of biowarfare. But we can't let our imagination and fear take us to that place. We will do well to prepare and follow recommended health practices to minimize this, and have faith and patience that our medical expertise will discover a resolution.
So as we all spend time isolated, quarantined, practicing social distancing, or just needing some relief from the current news, don't forget that we have this avenue to discuss PN-G football and sports, past and present, as well as other community topics. Also remember to reach out and offer support to those who may be isolated or in need of attention. Especially the elderly.
These may be scary times and a reminder that all the common, superficial things in life can be taken away or disrupted in a flash. But are also a reminder that our most reliable and comforting realities in this life are each other.
Stay safe out there, and don't be a stranger.
