INDIAN NATION - Greatest Fans Ever

I just want to begin by saying that we have the greatest fans ever. We probably travel better than any other team in the state. I loved seeing all the "Purple People" (as we were referred to) on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. The INDIAN NATION did a great job of stimulating the economy in San Antonio.

All that being said, I just have to ask "Why don't more people cheer at the games?" We have a few little groups of cheering fans through out the stands. But how much better could we be if there were more of us? I see some folks are not even clapping for Cherokee. I know that not all can stand, but what's up with the not cheering or not clapping?

Let me just say that I tried to get the people around us fired up and it didn't work well there was one man that yelled as much as I did. I will keep trying.

Keep trying. Maybe those around you will see how much fun you are having and will get the hint.

well as the Indian Spirit (Brandon Provost) said at the fire up pep rally, when cherokee is playing all fans need to stand up and if one next to you is not then get them to stand up and cheer other wise help them to their car and gell them to go home! ahahaha.. makes the game more fun and enjoyable when you get all emtional into the game! GOOO INDIANS!!

LOL, there's an older couple that sits right in front of me at the home games. They NEVER yell, stand or anything. They will clap during Cherokee (sometimes) but for the most part, they just sit there like they're watching TV!

Hey, everyone gets what they want out of the games, I suppose.

But, I bet I bug the H@#L out of them though, because I am VERY vocal at the games.

I just don't know what it takes to get folks fired up. Last year we had the best season in a long time and hopefully we will be equally as successful this year. Of course I'm hoping for an even better season. Yet there are folks at the game that sit like they are at the movies or as someone else said like they are watching TV. They don't even get excited when we are on the 5 yrd. line with a 3rd. down. And Oh my gosh, don't let us get behind - the fans go flat like a tire with a hugh nail in it. I am so excited on Fridays and can't wait for the game. I couldn't sit still and keep my mouth shut with my hands in my lap if my life depended on it.

During the first quarter I was shocked that only a few people cheered so I didn't cheer as LOUD as I normally do (didn't want to scare anyone). Also I was busy taking pictures of my kids too.

No one around me stands up or claps or sings Cherokee or the school song, and they talk and visit loudly during halftime so that I can barely hear the band playing. I use to love where I sit but I don't any more. My family has had those seats since I was in elementary but I would much rather sit around people who like to cheer on their team. I thought it was really sad Friday night to watch the poor cheerleaders begging people to stand and cheer and no one did. Things sure have changed since I was in high school and we cheered for everything.

Where we sit, everyone is pretty into the game. Watch the video of the Crosby game and listen to the crowd. It sounds pretty loud to me. Sounds like a lot of people are clapping along with Cherokee. Most people are not going to stand and cheer ALL game, but I think our fans get loud at the right times. The only thing I was disappointed with was a lot of people left early. Ask GP and Crosby's football teams if they would trade fans....I think the answer is pretty obvious. I will also go out on a limb and say that we will bring more fans to the Texas City game than TC will have for a home game. I will say that the fans who travel to away games are a lot more vocal and hard core than the home crowd. Like PNGProud said...everyone gets what they want out of the games. We need to just keep being loud and proud and maybe it will be contagious to the less vocal fans.

If you look around it is a status quo. Most come to watch the game, but there is some that come just to be seen and keep up with there status in the community. I've had my season tickets for about 20 yrs. We have a good crowd around us.

To me, fan support is more than just filling a seat in the stadium. I feel sorry for the cheerleaders and players if all that most of the fans can give them is status quo. I know I won't have a voice on Saturday mornings.

Well...for the TC game I suggest someone bring a big sign that says..."If u don't like to get loud, don't sit here! " So all of us who DO want to get loud can sit together and those that don't can sit elsewhere...or better yet. .STAY HOME!!

The fact the someone commits to attending the games speaks volumes (figuratively of course) about their support for the students of PN-G. Some of those people that are quiet in the stands were probably at one time rabid fans themselves "back in the day".

As has been previously mentioned, people get different things out of the game experience.

Some yell on every play, including "Defense" when the opposing team is in victory formation to kill the clock.

Some are there to enjoy a game and at the same time visit with people they may see only a handful of times a year.

Some won't say a thing, but really watch the game intently and appreciate and the X's and O's. These are probably the same guys that instinctively yell "Ball" at the appropriate times during the game.

Some don't understand what is going on in the game, but enjoy being there because their friends are (think of those people that are asked football questions on the KFDM Tailgate Show)

Some are there to watch a relative cheer, and may sit so close to the bottom that they really can't see the game over the team standing on the sideline.

Some are there to watch the halftime performance, I-ettes, Band etc.

Obviously the list goes on and on. The point is that there are many things that bring people out to the games and, as has been said in this thread already, students from other schools would love to have as many people in the stands, regardless of how loud they yell

Good post PNG NDN Fan. I agree with you that the experience and enjoyment of the game is different for everyone. I have a son that lives away and he watches his local team and texts me updates back/forth. A few years ago texting, twitter, etc. weren't popular as they are now and this distracts some from the action in the game.We should encourage all Indian fans to attend games--whether they stand and make a lot of noise,or not.We should never discourage fans from attending PN-G games because they don't make a lot of noise, or they don't stand every time for Cherokee.I hope everyone goes to the games and enjoys them the way they want to. That's what's great about Indian Fans--there are all kinds and they are all welcome and appreciated! :)

As I stated in my first post, we have the best fans ever. I just wish all those that came would act like they are a little more happy to be there. Some folks look like they are in the dentist office waiting to get a tooth pulled. Maybe with no pain killer they would at least give out a good OUCH !

For NDNMom92 - about the TC game and all the loud people sitting together - just go to the top on the 50 yrd. line. That's where the fun will begin.

I now live out of town but try to go to as many games as I can. Last year I didn't miss not one game. My family has had season tickets since Moby Dick was a minnow. I can't speak for everyone else but I can speak for myself. I try to stand and clap everytime they play Cherokee (or at least everytime I hear them play Cherokee). That was how I was raised. Kind of like standing for the pledge. But I now have a bad knee from an accident 3 yrs ago. By the time I walk from my car to the stadium and than climb to our seats I am wore out and in pain. So there are now times that I dont stand but I at least sit, clap and sing along with Cherokee. In other words, even though I am sitting down I try to participate in the game and game activities as much as possible. I remember in the 70's O0 people in the stands cheered for us when were where on the field. Now I try to return the favor and cheer for the students that are on the field (whether I know them or not), so that one day they can have the same memories that I now have.
