Here is a great shot of the new PN-G legend, Blake Bost. Cool under pressure and a big time leader! Nice to see him enjoying the win.

Yes it is.

Great win. I hear there are a few sore losers and people in denial who want to discredit the Indians.
Too bad for them.

Good effort by both teams. Better team won. See you next year as the Indians line up the next great QB that will air it out like Bost.

They can use all the help they can get on the defensive side of the ball ... I honestly just don't get it. It's not like they don't practice how to tackle right? I mean this is pretty obvious from the games that they need to work on this.

This probably explains a lot of it.

Practice regulations during the school year (once school has started)
  • State law limits schools to no more than eight hours of practice outside of the school day during the school week, per activity. School week is defined as Monday (12:01 AM) to the end of school on the last instructional day of the week (usually Friday). This does not include the athletic period.
  • During the pre-season, regular season and post season, football players are not allowed to participate in more than ninety (90) minutes of full contact practice per week. See the Football Manual for explanations of full contact.

*Full Contact – Any football drill or live game simulation where players are at a “competitive” full-speed pace, and players are taken to the ground.

I don't know what PN-G does but this story is enlightening:

"Just south of Dallas, DeSoto High School is home to one of the top football teams in the state. KERA’s Lauren Silverman recently visited a DeSoto High football practice and says she saw no head-to-head action or players falling to the ground after a tackle.

"This is a tackling circuit," explains DeSoto coach Paul Beattie. "The way we modified it is we're not going to take them to the ground. We don't want to hurt our own players."

In this type of tackling circuit drill, players run past, instead of into, each other. The team's head coach, Claude Mathis, welcomes the rule. "I saw a big improvement in our kids, in our kids' legs, in their body language. They weren't as tired as they were before," he says."

This has ruined high school football.

My 0.02 cents. The 2020 Indian defense is not as bad as everyone wants to hammer. I, too, am guilty of posting about tackling and asking in game threads, "where is the defense?" or "do we have any kids that want to play defense and tackle the ball carrier?" I agree, tackling is not good. I've watched the games on the PA Memorial YouTube channel and on the Texan Live HS football streaming subscription. I have seen the missed tackles, arm tackles, and poor angles when running to the ball carrier. Those are all coachable and fixable things. If they still have a booster club/weekly coach's review, I hope a local fan will ask about tackling. All of that said, I think that we all have to agree that our defense makes adjustments at halftime and the defensive stops and overall performance noticeably improves in the second half. In the second half, PN-G stopped PAM, Beaumont United, and Nederland. We should give our defensive kids and coaches credit for the adjustments and second half stops. End of my 0.02 cents. Thoughts? Discussions?

Also, any injury updates? Is the OL D. Dickerson hurt? How are the injured DEs? Any expected back?

Go Indians. Peace.

Sophomore Jansen Ware is the starter at right tackle this season. He's a big kid and has good agility and strength. Vaughn (Sr), Loftin (Soph), Rector (Jr), Burt (Sr) round out the starting five.

Defensive end Nichols was still out last week.

I'm sure the defense is working hard and making adjustments. Another positive second half factor is the offense typically adjusts, does better with time possession and scoring in the second half.

Defenders are getting to the ball and more often than not in position but the arm tackling can be improved to cut down on the long gains. Those long runs every week are allowing 250-300+ yards per game on the ground.

And keep in mind that we can turn on college and pro games and see arm tackling as well.

In the Nederland game, their pass defense was about as good as PN-G's run defense. Nederland secondary and pass rush is weak. I guess it's tough to play good defense these days.

I agree...we have definitely made great adjustments at the half and have done a good job shutting them down post halftime...just frustrating because we don't need to be in that position which has put us in a hole more often than not. That said, I'm just happy we have football to watch :) I stopped watching the NFL after they don't want to support the flag.
