Koby Trahan Breaks Single Game Rushing Record

It took 50 years but someone finally passed ‘The Jet’ on the all-time single game rushing list. Jeff Bergeron rushed for 347 yards in 1971. Koby Trahan ran for 366* tonight.

*Trahan had a 16 yard run called back after a PN-G penalty, so total is adjusted down from the previous.

Unofficially, Trahan has 1,236 yards and 13 TDs rushing so far this season. That's an average of 177 yards per game. Factor in the shortened game against Jasper and his game average is 190. He is on track to gain over 1,800 yards for the 10 game regular season but the two upcoming toughest games of the season will challenge that pace. The 2,000 yard barrier should be within reach If the Indians can make even a short playoff run and he stays healthy. But good defenses are going to key on stopping him and forcing Crippen and the Indians to win through the air. But the big hosses on the line, and Trahan will have some say so on who stops who.

Wow, super impressive! Looking at the more recent single game records, it’s obvious defenses as a whole have slacked on stopping the rushing game. That and we’ve had some incredible offenses with Faircloth.

Football is so different now. Offensive schemes like Faircloth brought here and that Briles installed at Stephenville have destroyed defense. It's no longer just about covering your gap and edge containment and covering the tight end and a single wide receiver or two. It's 4 or 5 guys in space and with a good QB who can find the open man its practically impossible to stop. The truly great defenses are the ones that can keep pressure on the QB and blow up the play before it can get started. This season PNG is showing a great 1-2 punch with the run (1400+ yards) and pass (1400+ yards). All made possible by the big uglies on the o-line.

I will take this offensive firepower for PN-G any season. Before 2009 everyone said it couldn't be done at PNG. It was tried in 2000 and failed miserably. People said that we didn't have the 'athletes' needed to run it. Wrong.
