Ok. I'll start off. No way Nederland beats us this year. Not gonna happen! :)

Ok. Let's hear it from both sides!

I agree with ya 93! Yankeedawg might have a different perspective though! ::)

Hey Shovelhead, how ya doin

Not gonna make any predictions at this point, as obviously too much can happen from now until MCM game day (witness the loss of our starting QB on day 1 of practice). All i can say is: 1. I'm behind my Dogs 100% 2. It's gonna be one helluva game and 3. Never say never.

One thing is certain though....it will continue to be the premier game in SETx HS football and one of the premier HS games in the state.

All I can ask for is that both teams fight to the end in a sportsman like manner and that none of either teams players get injured.

Hope ya'll have another great season !!

Peace
YD

I think it's going to be difficult for Nederland to win for quite some time. Nederland no longer has any coaching or preparation advantages.

As a former resident of Nederland, now living in Portland, TX, I have tried to explain to the fans here about Mid County Madness. While the GP fans are very loyal to the team, there is no rivalry like NED vs PNG. They will get a taste of it come August 28 in the Alamodome! Looking forward to the game, and putting a hurting on the Indians!

Go Cats, Go Dogs!

Not gonna say anything tacky, cause the game easily could have gone the other way.

All I will say is what a nail biter that was!! Congratulations to both teams for one of the best MCM games ever played.

Indians outgained the Bulldogs 503-302. Doty 361 yards passing. Bertrand 196 yards rushing. Nelson 172 yards receiving.

Any other year 500 yards would be enough offense to win this game. :thud:

Is it true Doty was only 20-46 passing as the Houston Chronicle said? Seemed that he hit a better percentage.

This was an exciting game. I saw Nederland play WOS, first game of the season. This in NOT the same Nederland team. They have gotten SO much better, while we have gotten, well.... worse. I'm trying not to be ugly, but this is NOT the same team I saw play G-P, Crosby and Texas City! I'm hoping the Indians work it out and get back on track next week. Meanwhile, Good game Big Ned! Y'all kick a bone out of the rest of 20-4A.

My family and I couldn't make the game this year but heard most of it on the radio and honestly could not believe that it was such a close game!! I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of both teams. I have watched most of these boys grow up and have had most if not all in my home if not once at least a thousand times and this will be our last year to physically support both PNG and Ned here in Mid-County. Both teams played a great game and PNG has NOTHING to hold their heads down for!!!! It was a great game and may GOD bless each and everyone one of our seniors to prosper in next step of their lives and to keep our returning students safe and healthy and to keep our MidCounty Madness going!!! Congrats to all!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Watching the game replay now.

My humble first quarter, non-coach assessment... the PN-G defensive players did not play all that badly in the 1st qtr. Nederland's play calling and execution worked for them. The defensive problem SEEMS to be, to this long time football enthusiast, foremost the defensive alignment. Nederland's precise play calling took advantage of the scheme. I'm wondering if the 3-4 is really the best scheme for this team to use.

Although the Indian offense didn't have the ball much in the 1st, they played well and were effective. The first quarter came down to a few key plays being the difference.

2nd quarter assessment. Again, the defense was not dominated and were in decent position most of the time. Good play calling and precise passing were the difference for Nederland. They hit the PNG defense in the gaps of that 3-4 alignment.

It feels like the defense is playing back too much and would have more success being more aggressive at the line of scrimmage. The opposition has too much time for their play to develop. The downside to that is the linebackers and defensive backs have a lot of pressure to play perfect football. That's not going to happen at this level. The most obvious example was the 3rd TD that the Bulldogs scored on the pass play before half.

Kudos to the offensive line, Bertrand, Nelson, Jalalli, and Doty on offense.

Nederland was well prepared on both sides of the ball and were able to execute more crisply.

My humble first half analysis. Nederland executed when they needed it, and were on an emotional high.

A big factor that everyone has to be remember, and is emphasized by Neumann's pregame comments, the Indians are considered to be a top program after last season. And as a consequence PNG is a big target. Opposing teams play above and beyond themselves. Based on his comments, Neumann was surprised to win the game.

Throw in the rivalry and Nederland was playing this game like it was a playoff game. They did that better on this night than the Indians. Going forward this season the Indians must now play each game like it's a playoff game and possibly their last. I still believe this team can and will win.

Third quarter high level summary, Nederland made some good defensive adjustments at half time and stopped the Indians on the opening drive.
They grasped early momentum aided with a big penalty but PNG battled back quickly.

On defense the PN-G defensive coaches made the halftime adjustment to go with four down lineman and a 4-3 alignment. The defensive pressure was obvious and aided pass coverage. The Indian defense took on a different personality.

Subsequently Nederland did the same with more aggressive defensive play which kept the Indian offense off balance just enough to slow them down.

On offense, kudos to Doty with some good running. That's an interesting wrinkle in the Indian 'O'. Kudos to the PNG offensive line. Kudos to Gizzi on some great routes, sure hands and a great pass for the 2 PAT. And kudos to Bertrand's running and Nelson and Jalalli's receiving.

On that last Nederland drive, PNG's defensive players were in decent position for the most part including pass coverage. The ball was thrown perfectly to keep the drive alive. On a few running plays Nederland made some great blocks that was the difference in the third quarter and resulted in the FG. The Indian fumble at the end of the quarter deep in their own territory was a killer blow. Aided by the turnover, earned momentum shift to Nederland.

This game so far is just a barn burner with momentum swinging back and forth. Typical MCM game with key plays and turnovers the difference. Nederland executing a few difference making plays to their advantage.

Suggestion: Continue to go with that fourth down lineman the rest of the season on the PNG 'D'. Strong defensive end play is a trademark of every good PN-G defense. And the pressure helps the pass coverage. PNG is not going to 'out quick' anyone with their linebackers or defensive backs. Don't put them in that position.
