Hearing on social media that Larry Neumann has resigned from NISD effective immediately. Local news station reporting that he has
"retired"

I hear he and the Superintendent weren't seeing eye to eye. I would like to hear the full story.

AND I really wish he would have been able to tell his kids first before the world heard it on Facebook.

Best of luck to LN in any and all future endeavors.

If that was it then the superintendent just singlehandedly returned Nederland football to a mediocre program.

The N on the side of those helmets stood for Neumann. Before that it stood for "Not gonna' beat PN-G". ;)

I agree, but it would have had to happen while school was in session and not on break. There's NO WAY this was going to stay under wrap until school started again.

Not sure why he left but it is highly suspicious because he was ytalking about his next couple of years teams and was thinking the prospects were very good for his next two years. This was after the season ended. Begs to question

Like PNGISD, NISD has its own mixture of politics, agendas and characters in admin and board rooms. No telling what the trigger was, or if it was strictly a personal decision. (None of our business.). All I know is that he's an above average football coach and leader of young student athletes. He always got the most out of a very limited talent pool, similar to PNG, and fielded respected teams every season. Nederland football will be lesser without his presence. They can replace the position but he takes his magic with him.

“I compare our programs with Nederland’s programs in that a lot of your fathers and cousins, uncles, nephews and brothers played in the football program at Nederland, just like at West Orange-Stark,” Thompson said. “Football is important, and one of the few places that’s left here in the Golden Triangle to where football is really important. I’m not trying to undermine anybody else’s program, but football is really important at the Nederlands and West Orange-Starks and Newtons, those places like that where you have staffs with longevity to where it’s been truly a family affair.
“We’ve had five starters the last three years where fathers have played at our program. A number of cousins, uncles and brothers. Same way at Nederland. The same names keep popping up every year. Nederland and West Orange-Stark are truly family affairs, as far as football is concerned.”

Football is only important at schools that have long time coaching staffs? Really? And obviously Thompson doesn't know much about PN-G and the multiple generations that have played there.

So let me get this straight. Only at WOS, Newton, and Nederland is football important. How about umm lets see Vidor. Matthew 18 years how many Vidor players dads and uncles played on those teams. Many if not more than WOS. I call BS on this comment.

The combined schools ( Orange HS + Stark HS) have only been around since the 70s. PN HS first played Orange HS in 1926.

Neither the coach nor the sportswriter put much thought behind those published statements.

Interesting comparison and play with numbers.

Larry Neumann's record over 24 years of coaching. 186-93-1
Winning Percentage: 66.607%
Average Wins Per Season: 7.75
Percentage of Seasons Ending with District Championships (8 of 24): 33.3%
Percentage of 10+ win seasons (7 of 24): 29.2%
Percentage of Playoff Seasons (20 of 24): 83.3%
Best Season Record (2012): 12-2

Brandon Faircloth's record over his 8 head-coaching years at PN-G: 62-31
Winning Percentage: 66.666%
Average Wins Per Season: 7.75
Percentage of Seasons Ending with District Championships(3 of 8 ): 37.5%
Percentage of 10+ win seasons (2 of 8 ): 25%
Percentage of Playoff Seasons (7 of 8 ): 87.5%
Best Season Record (2016,2009): 11-2, 11-1

At the current pace of wins per season, Coach Faircloth's projected record over 24 seasons? : 186-93 (Does that record look familiar?)

And to recognize the inevitable point that will be made, Neumann's record against Faircloth is 6-2. That would have been narrowed down to 6-4 over the next 2 seasons, and other than the rebuilding season in 2012, the average PN-G loss to Nederland during that span was by 4.8 points. Not exactly blowout wins, but that's a pointless conversation. Point is, Larry Neumann is deservedly recognized as a great coach, and using his results as a comparison, PN-Gs coach will and should also be discussed as a tremendous winner.

Good stuff, Indian Fan. The thing that made LN great was he won with different systems, styles, and players' abilities. If LN had to load up and run the ball, he would do it. If he had talent to spread out and throw, he would do it. If he had players that fit a pro-style offense, he would run a pro-style offense. His ability to recognize the talent of his kids and then to mold them into a team was second to none. Plus, he had a longtime defensive coordinator who did the same type of program building with the Nederland defense. There weren't many things that rattled LN or Delbert Spell and they schemed the best they could with the talent they had. He won his fair share vs. PN-G...tip of the cap.

Now, on to 2017 and the PN-G Indians repeating as 22-5A district champions, another win vs. Nederland, and some more playoff football.

Go Indians. Peace.

Be careful you might take away from the BF haters who still need some sort of reason to hate on him....

Kind of hard to project what is going to happen over the next 16 years, especially with high school kids.

Averages. They are what they are. There will always be extremes, but no reason to expect a great deviation either way. Faircloth is coming into his prime and there is much upside.
