Let’s mention the elephant in the room. FBM is large, fast and skilled. And they are well coached.

What will it take to be in the game?

The game probably won't go well. Texas Football rates FBM #3 in the state. BUT, MaxPrep rates FBM #23 due to their weak schedule. PN-G is rated #54 by MaxPrep.
We have no speed, but good tackling and no turnovers could keep us in the game.

FBM has a huge offensive line. Would like to see a few PN-G offensive starters play some key downs on defense. Corey Burt could go head to head with FBM’s ‘hog mollies‘, stand them up and give the linebackers a shot to make a tackle.

If their backs get to the second level it’s over. Put some kids at defensive end that have some quickness and tenacity. Do some blitzing and stunting to get into the backfield before they get started.

Indian defenders are going to have to play with some better form and properly break down for the tackle, keep their eyes open, hit and wrap up. Stop the arm tackling.

Need to start hitting them in the mouth early and often. Defense will have to play relentless with no holds barred to start the game. They don’t have to be the biggest, strongest, or fastest, they just have to want it more. Hopefully someone can give them one hell of a pep talk before the game!

Excellent point!

It’s time to sell out. Have no fear. Problem is if that doesn’t come naturally to a player, or it has not been instilled all year, including offseason, it’s not always easy to turn it on.

What we’re speaking of, in addition to playing with good technique at all times, has always been the secret sauce in PN-G football, as well as any successful team.

Against a team like FBM, to even have a chance, the defense needs to aggressively go for the backs at the point of handoff. Bring the defensive end or outside linebacker to disrupt and slow the play down. Linebackers can do a better job of playing off any block and hitting the runner. Too many times tacklers run up to the target and just extend their arms to pull the runner down. Not going to cut it. Swarm and hit. Down linemen are getting pushed off the line. Stay low and stand your ground. Creating a traffic jam at the LOS is better than being stood up while trying to make a tackle. Protect the linebackers.

It’s going to be tough but it’s not impossible to go toe to toe with these guys. There is historical precedent that coaches can talk about. Houston Kashmere in 75 and 76. LaMarque in 99. And others. Those were opponents that were supposedly bigger, faster and better. Those prior PNG teams showed how the game should be played.

Another motivating factor. If this team doesn’t want to go in the record books as the worst defense in PN-G history, stand your ground and defend your legacy. And the purple and white that you wear! But more importantly, leave every ounce of effort on that field and play to win.

Man. I would love to see the Indians play Texas High. Only for my own nostalgia. Probably won’t happen. But THigh could win this region. I’ve watched all their games. PNGISD needs to send a delegation up there and see how they’re running the broadcasts TEXARKANA GAMEDAY cameras run by students and yea you could tell it in the first few games but now it’s a FANTASTIC broadcast YouTube has them all. And they run off the website itself. Would love to see INDIANVISION get going. THigh can match up with FB Marshall barring injuries.

Dalton Dickerson. He was on the team earlier in the year but not starting. There is an even bigger sophomore, #72 Jansen Ware, starting at right tackle this year.

Will be a tough game with FBM, but I always have faith in the Purple and White Indians as underdogs due to their pride and spirit. Let's go Indians and show them what we are truly made of. Win this game with tackling technique that you really haven't shown all year and a swarming defense and you can win this game with Bost at QB and Pearson and other great wide receivers. Good luck and I hope whoever wins, the game ends injury free with lots of sportsmanship on both teams included.

For what it’s worth, any team in 12-5A would be in the same situation. Houston metro area teams are often on another level.
