The Orange Leader covers Orange County high school sports. Beaumont area schools and Lamar have the Beaumont Enterprise. The Port Rather News has traditionally covered Mid and South county sports. Yet what appears more and more frequently is articles about WO-S, Bridge City, Orangefield, Silsbee, LC-M, Lamar U. and other schools. With only one sportswriter now, it looks like thorough coverage of South and Mid-County is getting sparse what with all the time trying to cover so many teams.

The PA News and Orange Leader are owned by the same parent company. You're right regarding coverage of PN-G...or at least it seems that way in the online version. The PA News seems to reprint whatever the Orange Leader runs in its edition and the local coverage seems focused on PAM, Nederland, and Lamar, none of which interests me. The PA News is sliding downhill...and not just the sports section. The entire paper is a shell of what it used to be.

One item of interest in the last week or so. Someone wants to build more apartments in Groves, inside the PN-GISD. That is not what Groves needs. Groves needs more homeowners and zero apartments. I wish Port Neches and Groves would completely ban apartments. Renters, especially apartment renters, do not invest in the community. Homeowners take pride in their homes and the surrounding community. I hope the leaders in Groves will say NO...HELL NO when it comes time to approve or reject the apartments. Build and sell homes, not apartments. No to Section 8 housing in Port Neches and Groves!

Go Indians. Peace.

Wont happen in PN that's why we disbanded the P&Z commission and the Fire Chief left. Law suit filed city won no apartments on 8th street.

Duplexes on Mattorhorn flew under a Texas State law - not considered an apartment complex - I think because you can purchase them?

Last read that new homes are going up on the patch of land off of 25th street in Groves. Apartments were originally planned but were rejected.

My current home community fought the same battle in Harris County and won.

Socio-economic problems are difficult to address. But it's justifiable for tax paying citizens to reject any situation that will impact their community, state or nation. Keep fighting the fight.

Never thought I'd say it, but I miss Bob West, Tom Halliburton, Burt Darden, and the other old school writers that used to cover area sports.

I also don't care to read political opinions from a sportswriter. They should stick to what they do best and leave out the op-ed pieces. Much like political and religious views are best not discussed in the workplace, it doesn't belong in the sports section.

Thank you for sharing. I forgot about the BMT Enterprise. I guess we need to visit that site for coverage of PN-GISD. With all of the talent on PN-G soccer teams, the football team (American football) should have a dominant PAT/FG/kick-off specialist every year. It still baffles me to read about PN-G successes in football, soccer, baseball, golf, volleyball, track-and-field, etc., but the boys and girls basketball teams struggle. I know...I know...my hang-up on basketball has been discussed and beat-to-death on the basketball forum. Here's to more PN-G kids being involved, staying involved and having success...be it football, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, academic clubs, etc. I enjoy reading about PN-G doing well.

Go Indians. Peace.

That's correct, but now the company that failed in PN is going to try to build some at 73 and Gulfway (right by my house). PN turned out in full force to object and Groves needs to also. Groves is quickly going downhill and if I could move to PN I'd do it tomorrow. I suspect that the majority of police calls are aimed at the "Groves" apartments on Gulfway. At least they aren't in PNGISD! But, these new ones most certainly would be.
