It’s a designed 3rd and long “same as a punt” play. Where one of four things is designed to happen 1 Pass interference call 2 completion where our player is just better. 3 incomplete pass 4 interception. PLAY send ONE deep both side receivers do first down curls. “Punt” high ball to deep man with curl and all team members play punt return team “expecting” an interception. It may get you a “punt” deep in the purple zone (defensive inside the 5) the receivers can’t block. The chances of a PI Are about 33.333333 percent anfbibterceptioj maybe happens but you’re “ready” for it. Use that really high ball he throws as a weapon.

Because the defense would most likely bat the ball down on 4th and long. On 3rd you still have another down to punt in case of incompletion. My high school team used to (run offense) sometimes on say 3rd and 25 they would punt using a halfback sweep and it was a very effective field position changer (ala Australian style punt low to the ground lots of roll) I think that’s not that effective nowadays. But if it was 3rd and 25 why not use a play that would either be a completion or PI. OR a decent punt with no or little blocking by the return team PER SE. high school officials are more likely to view ANY and all contact as defensive PI even when the DB has perfect position. IMO. The main difference is that with a small amount of expectation of a possible interception (maybe even send TWO receivers deep (thus two defenders) to the same spot almost like a long pick play but after the ball is in the air. Even if the OTHER DB runs into one of the WRs there you are DPI - FIRST DOWN. just an idea. If it’s incomplete then you might punt on 4th

I would also like to see the hook and lateral used more in “normal” offensive play (not just Hail Mary situations) I think it could turn some mediocre plays into game breakers especially when moving the ball is a challenge.
