PN-G Passing Game

Not sure if anyone realizes it but Bost has quietly put together some great numbers passing the ball this year. He is near 2,000 yards, with an average completion of almost 11 yards. He is already standing tall along with other great Indian QBs from the past. RJ and Long had the advantage of their junior year being the second season as a starter.

Blake has at least one more game to pad his numbers. This comparison really emphasizes how productive Adam Morse was.

Good stuff. The stats and data you find and put together are AWESOME! RJs TD/INT ratio in 2017 was off the charts good! 35 TDs and only 5 INTs. WOW! Bost will have a nice career at PN-G. He will definitely be on page one of the record books with some great names alongside his (RJ, Adam Morse, D.Long, and Doty). Good stuff.

Go Indians. Peace.

RJ had the best receiver in PN-G history in 2017. Mr. Preston Riggs opened up the field and hauled in 19 TDs.

We should also mention Proenza, Wuenschel and Nail as one of the great receiver trios in PN-G history. That's the thing about PN-G football and why fans should just enjoy the game for what it is, win or lose. These are hard working kids who dreamed of these moments all their lives. And fans are watching history take place in front of their eyes. Find the good in and cherish each day (game) and each moment (play) for the experience that it is. I'm convinced that's the secret of happiness in life. :)

These players are only here for a flash and then become a 'remember when' story. But you can always visit pngindians.com to get a history fix for past rosters, schedules, stats, pictures and game summaries. It is your only portal into PN-G Indian football history.

Wow I had no idea

Blake Bost is a gun slinger!

Peyton Proenza, Kaleb Wuenschel and Brady Nail had an outstanding game last week against Nederland. Maybe their best. They were locked in. Everything that touched their hands was caught. And that's where Bost placed it. If the Indians can succeed through the air like that against FBM, the score may be closer than imagined possible.

Slight adjustment to Bost’s numbers. A few passes were completed by Wuenschel and Barnwell this season. He’s still over 1900 yards.
This guy is an exceptional passer. With a few if then scenarios, he would easily have 20% better numbers.

I’m going to go out on a opinion limb and wait for the wrath to be shared. He very well MAY be a more accurate passer than RJ was with a slightly stronger arm.

Bost is definitely more accurate on the short and medium passes. But RJ was money on the long ball. Can't wait for UT to use him for a halfback option pass.

Bost is accurate too with the long pass. RJ had Preston Riggs to run under those long tosses.

Bost surpassed 2000 yards last night. Updated stats to follow later.

Next season is promising. Nail will continue to be a tremendous possession receiver. Pearson and others will step up next season. Team needs a deep threat.

The RJ-to-Riggs combo was the best I've seen at PNG. It looks like Bost and Nail have a similar chemistry. We just need one explosive/fast receiver on offense next year and the offense will take off like it did in 2017.

Passing Stats Updated... Bost's numbers are not official, but much more accurate than what is published in the PA News.

A very solid season from Bost, especially given it's his first season as a starter.

Bost and Morse had 351 and 328 attempts. How much longer before we see a PN-G QB attempt 400 passes in a season? 400 attempts in a 16 game season would be 25 attempts per game. It could happen. In 11 games during 2019, Bost passed 31 or 32 times per game. 300 completions in season? 40 passing TDs? Those are doable. It is amazing what HS QBs are doing now. Look across the state. Kids are routinely throwing the ball for 300+ yards. Mix in a good run game and a decent defense and that adds up to a lot of Ws. Any final stats for the PN-G offense? Total yards? Total TDs? Rushing yards from the various ball carriers? Did the Indians have any RBs approaching 1,000 yards in 2019? Good stuff...and thanks, IndianFan.

I have thoughts on that. But let me shut up and give someone else an opportunity. :)

I'd like to hear your thoughts, IndianFan. You are the contributor on the web site and message board that takes the time to compile and publish the stats, so let's hear your thoughts and ideas. I think that you like a strong run game. You might like to see fewer throws and more of a consistent run game? A balanced approach? Although Coach Faircloth spreads the field, I wonder what the percentages are on run v. throw? Do you think the Indians are 50/50? I don't think PN-G is a true run-and-shoot team, so I would be surprised if the Indians were 70/30 in favor of the pass. I would guess that PN-G is pretty close to a 50/50 split? Maybe 55/45 in favor of the pass? What do you think? In the early years of Coach Faircloth's tenure, he had some RBs with huge numbers. RJ was off the charts running and throwing the ball. He is the all-time leading passer and 2nd all-time for rushing yards. Based on the rushing numbers of Chase Bertrand and RJ, I'm guessing PN-G is 50/50? What do you think? Could you imagine if PN-G could somehow combine the defenses of 1974-1977 with the offenses of 2016-2019? That would win a state championship! Just my ramblings. :)

I think the OL will continue to be a strength of the Indians in 2020. There are several returning kids that have played a lot of snaps on the OL. They have some size and experience. Maybe with the big and experienced OL, the Indians may lean on the run game more in 2020? I'll stop. Just my ramblings. :)

Go Indians. Peace.

Good conversation for sure. Offense should be just fine next season but a lot of new faces on defense

Coach Faircloth has been quoted as being a 50\50 team that takes what the defense gives and that appears to be the case with this season.

In 2019 the Indians were a 50\50 run\pass team averaging about 32 runs and 32 passes per game. That resulted in approximately 150 yards per game on the ground and 188 through the air, about a 44/56 split in yardage gained this season. Keep in mind the unreliability of publicly published stats, but that’s probably within 10% variance.

The running game was up and down throughout the season. That can be primarily attributed to OL and RB injuries. The early season success with running the ball against Silsbee and Tomball accounted for almost 1/3 of the season rushing total. The passing game would have been even more successful with less QB pressure and a deep threat receiver.

I have more thoughts on the offensive performance but hesitate to go into details. Some folks may not like an objective analysis.

I'm not sure that it’s fair to compare defenses of today with those legacy teams. The game has evolved greatly and I don’t think the defensive strategy and personnel back then would have any more success. Although certain D1 players back then would still wreak havoc (Weber, Brack, DeRutte, Giblin, Simpson, etc). Others from past years that didn’t go D1 in football would also be good players in any season. Those guys are timeless. But yes I can imagine that very well.

I’d like to hear others opinions on this topic.

In another thread we’ll look at historical scoring for fun.
