PNG Athletic Booster Club is soon to become a reality

PNG1992

Port Neches, TEXAS
Coach Faircloth will be presenting it to the PNGISD board on Tuesday April 14th and barring something unforeseen it should be approved at that meeting. This will be an athletic booster club that is similar to what other districts in the area currently have that will benefit every athletic sport within the PNGISD.

Keep in mind there are a handful of great folks that helped get this thing started and have most of the necessary paperwork, applications, etc all in place so moving forward shouldn't be a slow process. So everyone thats been wanting to help currently and in the past will have that opportunity in the very near future.

More info as it becomes available.

Scalp'Em Indians.

If I can remember, I'm going to go to that meeting, unless it's a closed meeting or something.

If this thing gets approved..... will we finally be able to buy t-shirts, baseball caps and other PN-G HS athletic paraphernalia on line???

Hopefully the Booster Club will have a website or authorize this website to advertise and or offer merchandise for PN-G High School athletics!! It makes it hard once you move away to obtain shirts and hats unless you return to the mid-county area.

I've been swamped lately, so, I missed the meeting. Did anyone on here attend, if so how did it go?

Yes it passed! Coach Faircloth made a very good presentation and he understands how all of that works having come from a district that had a booster club and reported that he had never been involved with a booster club that had any problems, in fact Rusty Brittain stated that "We have all heard the horror stories" and Coach said he had never been involved with a booster club that had any "horror" stories. Coach said that all of the clubs he had been associated with were very supportive and successful. So, it sounds like this program is off to a good start, after 2 months of research. Looks like they did their homework on this one... ;D

Does anyone know what Darren McCutcheon meant when he said something like we had not been successful with past booster clubs? Did we ever have a booster club? I am just asking because, if we had one, I was never aware of it. Just curious...

I was told by an elder PNGer that there was a booster club many many years ago and it got to the point where the booster club was trying to tell the athletic department and the coaches what to do. I also think that is what Mr Brittan was referring to when he mentioned the horror stories. Hopefully that wont be a problem this time. This is something that we need to have for the good of our kids and athletic program. I hope there is alot of support for the booster club and coach Faircloth.

Oh, ok. I had never heard that. But it makes sense with what Darren and Rusty were talking about. At this point, I don't see Coach Faircloth being the type of person to allow that to happen, and what I mean by that is that he is new to the community and there is no history here with anyone in town, so no back scratching to be done, if you know what I mean. I think all the kiddos involved with the athletic program will benefit from this. I have heard alot of people express their excitement about this so I think the support is there.

Where do I send my check? I know ... I know ... all the information will soon be posted and made available for those who want to participate and contribute. This is long over due. Every successful program has a strong booster club ... SLC, Permian, Katy, Lake Travis, Plano, Stephenville, Midland Lee, etc. Nederland has done good things for multiple sports thanks to a booster club. Thank the Lord PN-G is moving into the 21st century of Texas high school athletics. PN-G alumni across the planet will contribute. This will, or at least it should, benefit all PN-G sports.

Great job, Coach Faircloth. You have not coached a game yet, but you've already improved PN-G athletics. As for those critics who worry about undue influence from a booster club, please feel free to join the 21st Century. It's not 1955 or 1968 anymore. You can have instant information thanks to technology. Any coach who is worthy of a $90K to $120K salary will stand up to a booster club. People trying to assert undue influence will be exposed thanks to instant information being circulated. The folks at Odessa Permian say Coach Faircloth has big stones ... and they're made of steel. They seemed convinced that he will build a winner at PN-G and then he will move on to a larger program and maybe return to Mojo. We'll see. I'm just glad he's here now and making changes.

Go Indians. Peace.

From the school website:

Athletic Booster Club
The PNG Athletic Department would like to invite anyone interested to attend the first Port Neches-Groves Athletic Booster Club meeting on April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the PN-G High School Cafeteria. The agenda will include rules, regulations, committee elections, and an athletic program update.

Too bad we don't have some www.PNGIndians.com stickers, so we could all show up and show our support, as a group!

I agree totally! I love the Indians AND this website (even Justafan! lol). We should show some solidarity. Family says there were major problems before when they had a booster club, but since its a reality already I think it should be given a opportunity for success. BTW, Nederland hasn't been all that pleased with their booster club. Hopefully, they will work out their problems.

Just don't start a booster club. The football booster club is going to have enough competition as is. :)
