PNG Team is missing something--the cheerleaders!

We went to the game last night, PNG vs. Central, and enjoyed it thoroughly. We have a really good team this year and great ball players. The only negative thing I can say is that we were shocked and surprised to see all of Central's cheerleaders leading cheers and the only PNG cheerleader I saw was sitting in the stands. In the past years, the cheerleaders cheered at both football and basketball games. Who is cheerleader sponsor now and who is responsible to see that both sports are supported? Our boys deserved better.

I haven't been to a basketball game for the HS is years, but they used to send at least 4 or 5 to each game, way back when. They were home games though - could it be some parents didn't want their girls in Beaumont by themselves? I think they have to drive themselves, these days.

We played at the Reservation.

I am sure you remember the trouble at the end of the Central-PNG football game. Perhaps that had something to do with the decision not to have our cheerleaders at this game. Plus it is unusual for the visiting team to bring their cheerleaders. I know that some of the guys from Central mentioned to some of our guys that they beat us at the football game. Maybe we were just trying to avoid any incident.

I sincerely hope you are right. I'll have to ask friends if cheerleaders have been at the other game or not. We were just shocked to not see our cheerleaders there and wondered why.

The cheerleaders have been at some of the other games. They show clips of the basketball games on PN-G Primetime (the video anouncements played on Fridays) and they've always got a shot of the cheerleaders leading a cheer.

It is odd that they werent at this game. Even if it was for safety reasons, you'd think they wouldnt be as worried if the game was at the reservation. Normally, theres a police officer somewhere in the gym whenever anything goes on in there.

If that is the case, it's a sad state of affairs having schools on the schedule that warrant that type of concern.

Oh, then I have no idea why they were not there. I think Ruthie Woolf is the cheerleader sponsor these days...

Was there another event going on? Soccer game? I am just guessing, here.

My daughter is a varsity cheerleader and they were not at the game on friday because the cheer sponsor has to be at the games for them to cheer and Mrs. Wolfe had other plans. As it seems she always has other plans on basketball nights. Coaching staff is not the only thing that needs to be revamped at the school. Surely there is someone that can sponsor these girls and make the time to be at different events. These girls are SCHOOL cheerleaders, not just varsity football cheerleaders. The cheerleaders would like to cheer all of the sporting events and did want to be at the game cheering on friday, take it up with Ruthie Wolfe!

Thanks for the info. It WILL be reported. The cheerleader sponsor receives a stipend (money for extra duty) and if she is not doing her job it should be reported and she should be replaced.

Something like this happened one year at the school district I live in. My daughter was a Varsity cheerleader at the time and the then cheerleader sponsor should I say, "had to many irons in the fire". She was unwilling to notice it and kindly step down. Alot of the cheerleader parents offered to help taking turns at different games, but from what we where told, it would have to be an adult that was on the school insurance. So finally the school district assigned an Assistant Cheerleader sponsor. That why if one sponsor was busy or had plans the other one could be there in her place. Than as parents of the cheerleaders we all also rotated out helping out the sponsor at what every event the cheerleaders where at.

Sounds like good ideas--I reported this so we'll see what the administration does to correct it.

I am a varsity cheerleader (using my dad's user name). I would like to say that Ms. Wolfe has a family just like everyone making these rediculous posts. Ms. Wolfe was in Houston Friday taking her son to the Dr. (not that it's any of your business), therefore we were unable to cheer without our sponsor being present, however, most of us were there cheering for our players from the stands. We may not have been in uniform, but we were present. I'm sure like many of you, your work is very important, but FAMILY comes first! This is the first home game we have missed for boys basketball and I can't believe Ms. Wolfe is being slammed for it. I speak on behalf of ALL V-cheer when I say Ms. Wolfe is a wonderful sponsor, and without her, we wouldn't have the talented squads we have this year. She is very well respected by all of the girls and Jeremy, as well as by MOST of their parents. Obviously while reading the various posts on other topics, it is impossible to please 100% of the fans 100% of the time. We spend long hours during the summer painting hundreds of signs for the lockerrooms, gym, halls and field and attending cheer camp all of which Ms. Wolfe must attend while most of the other teachers are enjoying their summer break. IF she receives any additional compensation, I can assure you it's not enough compared to the amount of hours and heart she puts into us! So as far as I'm concerned, find someone else to bash because Ms. Wolfe definitely doesn't deserve it! :stop:

Only one person is bashing her, and that person is one of the other cheerleader's moms. Everyone else was just stating that maybe we should have two sponsors so that when one is busy, the other one can go so nothing is missed. I am not agreeing with bashing. I know Mrs. Wolfe and her sons very well, and i think she does a great job.

I have to add my opinion. I think Mrs. Wolfe does a wonderful job with both the JV and the Varsity cheer squads. This takes lots of her time and energy. The girls practice two or three days a week and also cheer at two games a week. I know last year the Freshman squad only cheered at a couple of basketball games.
Sponsers, teachers and coaches almost all of them have families and sometimes things come up unexpectedly. I think both the Freshman and JV cheer sponsors have done a great job this year with all three squads. I sure wouldn't want to do their job for no amount of money. Could you imagine having to worry about 20 girls/guys who all have different personalities. I for one appreciate Mrs. Wolfe and everything she does for our girls.   Thanks again Mrs. Wolfe you will never please everyone all the time.

If you where talking about my posting, I was not trying to bash Mrs. Wolfe at all. I do not know her to even form an opinion about her. My posting was to give a suggestion. In our school district the cheerleader sponsor that I was talking about did really well as a sponsor for many years, than she had a baby very late in life (her other two children where about to graduate). She tried to juggle being a teacher during the day, cheerleader sponsor after school and take care of a new born plus half grown family. In her case it was very obvious that she was overwhelmed but was not willing to admit it at first. Many parents offered to help her, but she took it as people trying to step on her toes. It finally got real bad to where the school administration started noticing it. That is when they finally got her an Assistant to help her. Now, looking back she will even tell you that was the best thing that could have happened. She still can do everything that she loves to do and have time for her family also. The two sponsors share coverage of all sporting events, discussions and etc. On the flip side, the cheerleaders get more out of their cheerleader year and also more help. Cause like the old saying, two heads are better than one. :cheesy:

Great post, Modmouse!! You're right--I was NOT bashing Mrs. Wolfe (I don't even know her). The ISD should assign someone else to replace her when family matters keep her from doing her duties. Me thinks this particular cheerleader needs to re-read the posts and see if she can interpret them correctly.

It seems like someone told me that Mrs. Wolfe handed the freshman squad over to another sponsor. It also seems like someone told me that her son broke his neck (or something along those lines) several months ago and that could be taking up some of her time. Don't quote me on it, it's hearsay and I could be wrong, but that came to mind when I read the previous posts.

Edit: I did not see the post from mcfstrainer's daughter (sorry, somehow I just missed it), and I guess that confirms that I was somewhere in the ball park with the statement about her son. I can vouch for the statements about Mrs. Wolfe's commitment and spirit. Her keyboarding classroom is stacked with cheerleader equipment and the cheerleaders do put in the extra effort with the signs and posters. Having visited (Visited. I would never think of leaving PN-G.) other schools in the area, its nice to see a cheerleader squad (and sponsor) that puts in the extra effort and doesn't just quit when football season's over.

Guess we've been spoiled over the years. Used to cheerleaders cheering for both fb and bb.
