Preserving history

Indian football fans and alumnus, as we hibernate between football seasons it’s a great time to contemplate the great history and tradition that PNG has recorded, and will create in the future.

One of my hobbies and ‘goals’ in life has been to preserve as much PNG football history as possible in an easily accessible format and place for past, current and future generations to visit and enjoy.

While some success at that has been achieved in the almost 20 years that this site and messageboard has existed, progress has never reached the level I envisioned. Local response has been lacking overall.

But that can be corrected if you are willing. Many of you have such historical artifacts, or know someone who does.

I now have the ability to scan photos and documents at an incredible rate and quality. Over a thousand printed photos can be scanned in a day at 600-1200 dpi with very little effort.

So while sending your valuable sports photos and articles to someone else might seem to be a risky proposition, keep in mind that I value such material as much as anyone, and have proven that for 20 years. Consider me your own personal historian and archivist of school history.

If you have any PNG sports media that you would like to digitize and share with the virtual PNG Indian nation, please consider the opportunity. I will gladly receive, capture and publicize your PNG media to the world on pngindians.com at no cost, including return shipment. And also credit you on pngindians.com as the source if you wish.

Life is fleeting, the present quickly becomes history, replaced by new events and memories. Please help me hold onto and share purple and white sports memories for the sake of past, present and future generations of PNG Indians.

Always be faithful to purple and white. It is our heritage, and will be carried on by future generations. Let’s leave our history in a place that many can enjoy.

Man, what a great undertaking. I’ve long considered buying the program from the Permian game. Of course I had one for years as a kid and fixated on the cover. (Always wondered even then why they used a generic player for the cover. $150 on eBay. Maybe someday I’ll buy it and consider it archived.

Usedtocould - thank you for the link to ebay. I purchased the program. I should receive it by February 28, 2019.

IndianFan - when I receive the PN-G vs. Permian program, I will send it to you. Feel free to scan, copy, post, and make it available for all PN-G Indian fans. I'll keep looking through my old archives. Anything that I find, I will send it to you. Thank you for preserving the history of PN-G.

Go Indians. Peace.

Awesome. Lots of great memories from that program. I’d sit in my room (we had recently moved from PN to TXK) and look at it for hours. I discovered it (on Ebay) maybe 4 years ago.

IndianFan,

I have all the programs from the 1953 state championship season plus the program from the 1954 Cotton Bowl game between Rice and Alabama. We got to go that game. That is the game where Danny Lewis of Alabama jumped off the bench and tackled Dick Meagle to keep him from scoring. The officials finally awarded him a touchdown. Bart Starr was the quarterback for Alabama. If you are interested and I can locate them I will send them to you for digitizing.

Im assuming “we got to go to that game” means the Indian team.

Indian Fan,

As you know, I'm a big supporter of preserving in PNG sports history. Many of my football programs from the 60s and 70s have already been uploaded to the ftp site, with more to come soon.

I would love to see the 1975 Permian and 1953 playoff programs. Have you received/scanned them? And, if so, will they be posted on the website?
