Roschon Johnson did look bigger. Huge biceps. I guess he bulked up to withstand the brutal pounding that NFL RBs have to endure for an entire season. He's a tough dude! I saw his one run for 10 yards. Did he get any other touches?

First play 9 yards rush
Second 3 for the first down left sweep
Fourth play screen catch for 7
After one first down rush for 4 just short of the first
3rd and one hit in backfield but made it back to line of scrimmage
They were going for it on 4th but punted after false start
2nd Q
Draw play for 5 and first down
bears score TD
Game terminated due to weather
But the bears get an extra preseason game

You can’t always tell during preseason
But it looks to me he’s RB1 for the bears
Still have Herbert but he (Roschon) started the game

They have him running NS
Slight philosophy change I believe
Don’t try to do too much
Just get the yardage that’s there quickly

Seems the days of Tony Dorsett etc Herschel Walker breaking the big run are almost gone nowadays

The modern NFL run play is designed for 3-10 yards that’s what they want (because of the defenses now)
The bears seem to like the screen pass (that’s how the Eagles and now Chiefs won under Andy Reid (probably the best screen designer in football history IMO)
Too many teams do the old style screen which takes way too long to develop and 9/10 a lineman catches the play from behind or outright blows the play up sniffing it out early
This screen pass seems Tailor made for Roschon
One more thing
JET SWEEP PASS
lol
It would be unstoppable

Also
Roschon more than almost every RB out there would benefit from having an I formation FB

WISH they would try it
His downfield vision is too good best I ever saw play
But they are positioning the RB deep (the (Earl Campbell formation) which is good
The Bears seem like a run first team
And Caleb Williams might add the dangerous passes off of the run threat
Not sure if I love the Texans Offense or hate the Bears Defense (I’d bet on the latter ha)

Both teams rested their starters…Chicago picked up Deondre Swift from the Eagles in free agency so he’s RB1 as of now with Roschon and Herbert competing for RB2. I just hope they give him adequate opportunity to show his full potential cause he’s definitely got the talent to be the #1 guy!!

I just wish RJ could break a big run every game. That would put him head and shoulders above Herbert.

Me too! He was out several games last season with a concussion so hopefully he’ll play a bigger role this year. He may not have 1st level quickness and speed like the smaller, shifty RB’s but he’s TOUGH to bring down so if he gets past the line…he’s GONE! With the new kickoff rules, I’m hoping they’ll use him on kick return cause he’s hard to catch in open space and will FLAT OUT run guys over!

I don’t mind the new KO rules but I wish they’d allow the other UFL rules where instead of an onside kick you can try for 4th and 15 and you should be able to do it anytime instead of only the 4th Q

What little I saw of it in the Texans game, I don’t like it much.

Of course I’m not a big fan of the pooch kick that is so prevalent now either. But the strategy makes sense.

The new KO situation is weird. My first reaction, I don't like it. It will have to grow on me over time. I keep hearing all the talk show experts say the five yard separation for blocking and reduced momentum that the defense has from the new line-up point/5-yard separation from the KO-blockers will allow for more big plays by the KO returners...all the KO returner has to do is "pop" through a gap and he is off to the races. We'll see.

Out last two weeks
I’ve been wondering what’s up with that too! I know he’s not fighting for a spot on the team but if he’s competing for RB1 he should be getting plenty of reps, unless he’s injured or they’re just planning to use him for blocking, short yardage plays and special teams like last year…UGH! I just hate to see him underutilized AGAIN, because WE KNOW what he’s capable of if they’ll just TURN HIM LOOSE!! It’s not just my “home town” bias either because I’ve seen A LOT of Bears fans questioning and complaining about him not getting more reps!!
