Interesting weekend.
Fort Bend Marshal came back to almost beat Aledo. Final 45-42 with Aledo winning their 9th state championship title. To all the critics of PN-G’s defense, Aledo gave up more yardage and almost as many points to FB Marshall than the Indians did. Aledo losing its 2 top defenders to injury during the game helped Marshall’s cause. But of course Aledo’s offense is on another level thanks to the elite speed of their backs and receivers, an outstanding offensive line, and amazing QB genetics (Bishop family).

Austin Westlake dismantled Denton Guyer 24-0. The Westlake offense looks amazingly like PN-G‘s scheme and execution.

I went to AT&T...for the games on Saturday. The size of Aledo in the trenches, their scrappy QB, and the RB #9 were something to see. Aledo had grown men on the OL. They were a well-oiled machine on the OL. The were big and they knock you off the line of scrimmage. Two of the big hosses were only SOPHs. They must have the best OL coach in America. He has that unit knocking people into the ground. They hit you and drive you into the ground until the whistle blows. The QB was a firecracker. If he needed to throw it, he put it on the money. If he needed to scramble, he scrambled. If he needed to turn the ball up field and run, he did it. He reminded me of Kendall Briles vs. PN-G in the 1999 state championship game. Whenever Aledo needed a play, the QB made a play. Finally, #9 was a load. When he ran north-south, he was a hoss to bring down. He was probably 6'1" and 210 lbs., and he ran like a loaded bull. FBM gave it a great shot. Achane did his thing. Hard for Achane to scoot when he was on the sidelines. When he did have his shots, he ran all over Aledo. He is an amazing talent.

Speaking of size, the kids from Aledo had nothing on the kids from Duncanville and NS. Those kids from Duncanville and NS were huge. They had college ready kids on the OL/DL, LBs, and DBs. Seeing the size of those kids in person was eye-opening. I don't see those types of monsters at WB, PAM, PN-G, Nederland, or other SETX schools. Westlake had some long lanky DEs and OLBs. But, the size and speed of the game for Duncanville and NS was light years ahead of everything else. That game had speed all over the field. Nothing I saw on Saturday from FBM v. Aledo or Denton Guyer v. Westlake compared to the size and speed of Duncanville v. NS.

One thing in common with all of the 5A and 6A schools...they had numbers. There were 200 kids on the sideline for Aledo. I'm guessing they brought their freshman, soph, and JV teams. The same for NS. They have numbers. Duncanville had some kids on the sidelines, but not like Aledo and NS. They brought every kid in the program to AT&T stadium. The NS band never stops playing...NEVER...NEVER EVER.
