....and I bet you remember that day just like it was yesterday.......that is what being an INDIAN is all about!!! :woot: :rocks:PNG NDN Fan said:Whoa! I am one of those dudes playing trumpet there...kinda sloppy but we were excited about progressing.
At the end of the clip you notice a group of kids that run over and start cheering with us, that was the LC-M band that had also just found out that they were also advancing

You can definitely tell a tempo difference. It is played much sloooower now.

I am surprised a revolt has not taken place. I posted in a previous post that I had a friend from Vidor call me and ask me if the band was on valium this year when they played Cherokee. He said people around him were looking at each other and trying to guess why the song they had heard for 30 years was now being played at a slower pace. I guess that's what you call change??
I have heard that the band director is a very talented man that teaches the band to focus on the quality of the note. Now, I can get behind that. However, if there is one song that needs to be blasted and played up tempo, it would be Cherokee.

Hmm....are ya'll sure this was the '84 band? Just curious because the exact same thing happened with the '88 or '89 band and I was there and we were sitting in the exact same place as this video. I remember it like it was yesterday, we were told we automatically advanced because a band from the Houston area lost too many members to "no pass, no play", so we got to bypass the Regional competition all together along with LC-M. I remember them running over to us just like in this video. This was also the band that recorded the version of cherokee that is still used on the radio. It's crazy because I remember playing Cherokee after we found out, I played Trumpet too. Maybe it is from '84, but I swear I could point to exactly where I was sitting, oh well, maybe I'm being hypnotized by the way Cherokee is played now and I'm not thinking clearly... ;D!

I'm sure it's Fall '84. Also, the saw the owner of the video during the Lumberton game and he said "Hey I got this video of us playing Cherokee of us after contest when you were a Senior (he was a Junior then), I'll put it on YouTube so you can see it".
To that I replied "Cool" 8)
