McCoy is out with a shoulder injury. I'm guessing it's a slight separation from the looks of the hit.
Now it's up to the freshman QB and the rest of the team to get it done.

Looks really bad for the Horns w/o McCoy out. This game could get really ugly, unless Saben calls off the dogs. At least there will be an asterish by the title. :thud:

Alabama's offense is NOT impressive.

AGREED! You would think with all the penalties against Texas they would have been able to make something of that last possesion.

Gilbert is doing a pretty good job so far(receivers not as much)

*edit* I take that back..

SInce I did not have a TIGER in this fight, I was favoring Alabama to win. But after Colt got hurt and Gilbert came into the game, my feelings changed. I was pulling for the freshman. He looked real good, considering the circumstances. He should do really good next year for Texas.

I guess my maternal instincts got the best of me!

Maybe if Texas would have played their freshman QB in their earlier games against some of the cupcakes they played, he would have had more experience. He actually did fairly good in the 2nd half. Also some passes were dropped.
It looked as though Texas was more concerned about getting McCoy a Heisman Trophy then winning a national championship.

You really didn't watch Texas play this year have you? He played in 7 or 8 games for the Horns. Colt should have won the Heisman last year not this year. I guess bama didn't play cupcakes right....Florida International or North Texas!!!

You have to feel good about Gilbert's future with the 'Horns!!

A moral victory doesn't put a N.C. trophy on the shelf but to come as close to Alabama as they did with Gilbert not even suspecting he was going to play is more than I would've ever asked for.

So I am guessing you are saying that the coaching staff should have told Colt (or any starting QB for that matter), "son since we are playing a cupcake this week we are going to start the Freshman QB and not allow you to add to your personal stats and help you possibly with individual awards." How is that rewarding a kid for all his hard work? Do it one time and you would never, ever be able to recruit top talent again.

All I was trying to say is that when Texas got ahead of an opponent they could have pulled McCoy and played the freshman QB. I never suggested starting the freshman QB!

And if the younger QB played in 7 or 8 games he didn't throw much according to the stats stated by the announcers and did just mop-up duties as we all know doesn't give much experience.

Plus I never said other teams didn't play cupcakes but since Texas did not have a QB with college experience it would have behooved them to develop one during the year.

I was thinking that same thing last night. The only problem is, under the current ranking system for college football you have to score points, not just win games, to get to the national championship game. So by allowing him more playing time during the season UT could have possibly cost themselves the chance to play in the game. It's a double edged sword of sorts.

Just another reason we need a playoff system in college football in my opinion.

Good point carzan. You can't afford to lay on a 21 point lead in the FBS.
If your up big and put in the backup QB, you will not be passing much at all. The purpose is to run the clock and 1. Get out without any injuries and 2. Not embarrass the opponent any further.
