PORT NECHES - Brant Halfin was running and Ky Walker was passing. The start to the 2014 Port Neches-Groves pre-season looked a lot like last season.

PN-G outscored Little Cypress-Mauriceville 14-0 in a live quarter and did the exact same to Hamshire-Fannett.

Halfin had 89 yards in the two quarters while Walker threw three touchdowns in relief of PN-G starting quarterback Adam Morse. Morse left the field after the controlled scrimmage portion of the night with back spasms and did not return.

PN-G coach Brandon Faircloth said he expected Morse to make a full recovery but will talk with doctors and Morse over the weekend.

“Hopefully we can get Adam fixed up but what a good night for Ky,” Faircloth said. “I have never seen such an unselfish player in my entire career. Whatever we ask Ky to do is what Ky does.”

Walker was the starting quarterback in 2013 for the Indians and threw for over 2,000 yards. Faircloth named Morse the starter for the 2014 season at the Indians first practice this season in a move to help PN-G in the secondary. Walker led the Indians with four interceptions as a sophomore as a cornerback.

Walker said it will not matter to him if by next week Morse is back under center and he is playing in the secondary

WB scrimmage will be a better gauge. LCM and HF both put the ball on the ground a lot last night without being touched. Not really an indication of anything our Indian defense did, but i thought we definitely tackled much much better, especially for this early in the season.
