The 2023-2024 sports teams and support groups have had a great school year. Football, soccer, baseball, softball, golf, and the band competition. Why wouldn't a family moving to SETX want their kids to be PN-G Indians?

Boys maintain tie for 1st in district at 9-1 after sweeping 2nd place (tied with Nederland) Crosby. PNG and Barbers Hill have a 2 game lead over Crosby and Nederland with 4 games remaining. PNG and Barbers Hill square off in the last 2 games of the regular season. Provided we take care of business against 3rd place Baytown Sterling next week, the Barbers Hill series will decide the district championship.

Girls play winless PA Memorial tonight, so they should easily maintain their 2nd place in district. This will set up a game with Barbers Hill next week that will give them a shot at a three way tie for first with Barbers Hill and Crosby.

Let's take inventory. So far this school year, PN-G has put forth:
  • the 5ADII football state champs;
  • a 5A girls' soccer district champ and regional semifinalist team with multiple ranked wins under its belt;
  • a 5A boys' soccer area champ team;
  • a 5A baseball team currently tied for the district title in arguably the toughest district in the class;
  • a 5A softball team currently in the district title mix;
  • a playoff team in volleyball; and
  • a band that took straight ones at marching competition and sweepstakes in concert and sightreading.
And we still have six weeks left in the school year. Not bad. (And I'm sure I'm leaving something out.)

Boys complete sweep of Sterling with 6-2 victory tonight, maintaining their tie for 1st place. Sets up a two game series with Barbers Hill next week for the district championship (sweep=outright, split=co-championship). Losing both games would result in a tie with Nederland for second place only if the dogs sweep third place Crosby next week. Hopefully we take care of business against BH and what the dogs do is moot.

Girl finish district play in 3rd place after 16-4 victory over Sterling.

Boys fall to BH 6–1 in game 1. Can still win co-championship with victory over BH in game 2 on Friday. Dogs beat Crosby in game 1, so a loss to BH in game 2 will either result in an outright second place finish or a tie for second with Nederland depending on whether or not they beat Crosby in game 2. Crosby has a 6 game losing streak and has no hope of either improving or losing their fourth place seeding, so it would be surprising if they could pull off the upset against Nederland. Since we split with Nederland during district play, in the case of a tie the seeding would either be determined by other tie-breakers or a seeding game (not sure which would apply). Hopefully we can take game 2 from BH so it doesn’t matter what Nederland does.

Girls start the playoffs on Friday against always tough Friendswood.

As of now if PNG and Nederland have to play a seedling game it will be at Bridge City on Saturday. Not sure of time yet.

Boys lose game 2 6-3 to BH. Somewhat surprisingly, Crosby did beat Nederland 4-2 in game 2 of that series, so the Indians take second place in district.

Girls lose 6-4 to Friendswood. This was a one game series, so their season is over. Congratulations to the girls for another good season.

NDNzeke, thanks to you and indians87 for posting scores and updates about the baseball and softball teams. Came up short vs. BH and Friendswood, but the boys will live to fight another day. To the ladies, great season! Go Indians!

Am I recalling correctly that the baseball team was district runner-up the year we won state in 2017?
