I'm not sure what to think of Texas High after watching that game vs Fayettville. Texas High QB seems to throw the football as if it weighs 15 pounds. Very slow awkward motion. They definitely have some athletes on the field. I'm not sold on them.
That’s definitely a good way of putting it
I notice that as well
He’s like 6’5
Multi year starter
Just hasn’t impressed me that much

But like the whole team he has his moments where he looks great.

Interesting HS playoff fact. Laporte who PNG defeated never lost again game and won their 5AD1 district. Because their football stadium is still undergoing renovations, LaPorte has to travel to Austin Anderson (4th place finisher). La Porte been an orphan playing in surrounding HS stadiums this year.
PN-G played a tough schedule. Hopefully that has prepared the team to be more successful in the playoffs.

Don't sleep on any of these Region 1 teams:

Lovejoy - TD is coaching these kids
Colleyville Heritage
Anna - moved up from 4A after winning the state title
Argyle - plays Emerson in bi-district!!!
Frisco Emerson - state semi-finalists last season and had 1st half lead against SOC
Prosper Walnut Grove - won a district with Lovejoy, Anna, and Emerson

Note, a team like Melissa, a preseason top 10, didn't even make the playoffs as they share the same district with Prosper Walnut Grove, et. al. True, the West Texas schools can't compete with the rest of Region 1, but the region is no slouch (not like Region 4). Whichever school emerges from Region 1 will be battle-tested and a definite threat to compete for a state title.

With that being said, Richmond Randle has to be the favorite (IMO).

The Indian’s offense has enough weapons to compete against all these teams. PN-G will go as far as the defense is able to tighten up. They’ll need to flip some possessions and the offense needs to finish drives with touchdowns. Every down of every drive counts.

Anna defense last year was shutdown and keep giving the ball back to a young offense in excellent field position. The Anna DC leveraged that success into a HC job. 2024 Anna returned 11 starters in all the skill positions almost their entire offense. Anna also had two top receivers in the state “transfer” into their town. Anna played a lot of “PNG vs MLC” games will rebuilding their defense.

Lovejoy returns their entire offensive line and returns a D1 wide receiver. Did lose their QB to graduation but you have the QB guru of all of HS.

Emerson graduated QB Michael Hawkins who has started games for Oklahoma this year. Hawkins transferred to Emerson in 2023 due to claimed racial intimidation in his previous community.

Argyle is a perennial state champion but experienced a “down” year (10-3) in 2023 due to youth starters.

Prosper Walnut Grove in their first varsity season is a coming whirlwind in the university with so many young talented players. PWC has accomplished so much morevthan Alvin Iowa Colony in District 9 (second year of existence).

Klein Oak 6A lost to PNG. Klein Oak was the only team to beat the 6A district winner Klein Cain (7-1 and 9-1) Klein Oak lost to the district runner up Tomball (7-1 and 9-1) by a score of 21-24. Some PNG fans posted after the game that KO had superior talent but questionable play calling doomed the KO team. You are what your coaching record says you are.

Yea I was thinking about Lake Creek being the biggest 5A-D2 disappointment. But Melissa not making the playoffs may top that. They were ranked and their Districts favorite.

With the young QB at the helm now, what’s the outlook for Huntsville? Haven’t seen him play but hearing that he adds a lot to the offense.

I think Huntsville will be the district favorite for the next three years. The Hornets are like PN-G in the sense that they rotate a large number of kids in-and-out of the game. Some kids may not be starters, but they get lots of playing time in pressure games. PN-G does the same thing. Look at the number of kids that get rotated in-and-out of the game, especially on defense. Huntsville will have the FR QB, two RBs, at least three OL, and several kids on defense. I like HC Rodney Southern. He's got a good staff, has a good system, and he has a calm demeanor.

Huntsville is always tough. PN-G returns a lot next year + the JV talent. I’ve also heard that there’s a good running QB on the way up for the Indians. So we will see who the favorites are next year.

The PN-G fanbase (Indian Nation) enters this 2024 playoff season with pride, excitement, uncertainty and hope. Just like every other community in the state that have earned a shot at the prize.

Anything is possible. All we can do as always is show up and support in numbers and also privately. Show the state what PN-G is all about. And let the players and coaches know you appreciate them no matter what. Because we are blessed to experience each and every game played.

Go Indians!

I’ll leave that up to the fans who have seen the JV and freshman play.
I'm not sure which one is being referred to. I'm familiar with Alfredo "Fredo" Salas. Tall and lean, decent speed, not afraid to run or drop a shoulder. He is a sophomore, blue collar kid from a big family. In my experience seems very composed and coachable. Only knock I would say is he seems to struggle with accuracy on longer passes. But I'm sure another off season of building arm strength will help with that. I certainly see alot of potential in him, as long as we invest the time to develop him.

Looking even further ahead... The 8th grade team has a great defensive player. Supposedly he is going to be a big difference maker. Heard this at work from parents who have kids on the team. I heard his name but I cant remember. Any 8th grade family members out there that can verify this? Maybe his name was Warner or Werner? I am not 100% on the name though.

All the work by the UIL to make sure the teams that stop a certain running team got moved away from them so they would not play until state, but they didnt realize that Richmond Randal would turn out so good this year. Also TD took over at Love Joy also in their region.

I've watched the 8th graders play. Along with the junior league players off of Hogaboom road.
I do know personally of at least one outstanding defensive player. They went undefeated for the season.
I asked him earlier in the year if being a part of the "State Champions" program added any pressure. He said yes of course. I then reminded him that the only thing expected of him right now is to "Love the Game" and listen to the coaches. He was really encouraged by my response.
At this early time in their development we should leave them alone with their parents and not get them involved in all the "chatter". And yes, I'm so looking forward to watching his development but remember the parents have to develop as well and can be as unpredictable as a butterfly.
