I was told that the 32,000 was the amount of tickets that were sold for that particular game. So the fans that stayed and watched the previous games were not able to be counted in the total attendance. SOC looked like the majority of their fans were on the first level and the rest were spread out on different levels. It looked to me most of the other level on their side were fans who stayed after they played. So with that being said. I truly believe there was at least 45,000+ at that stadium last night.
How do they report all of those attendance records for recent championship games if they don’t have any way of estimating the actual crowd size. I always heard that the reason some of those numbers were so high was BECAUSE there were fans from multiple games present.

PNG’s highest attendance was one game played at Texas Stadium. A lot of the games previously played with attendance records the people had to leave and renter the stadium. Here lately if you leave you have to buy another ticket. Now there is no way of telling how many people stay and leave so those numbers aren’t counted. I wish there was a better way of doing it but it’s hard……..I would personally like to think all of the Southeast Texas fans that aren’t from PNG and the fans that came in from other startes for coming out and showing there support. This is why Southeast Texas is the best area to be in. One team goes this far and everybody follows. I am glad to say “Southeast Texas has the best fan base and is the best anywhere in the country.”

If true, I guess that means that going forward we will never know the real attendance records in state championship games. At least we still have the single game record, which will probably never be broken.

All sounds bogus. I do not like all games being played at one venue.

If the single venue is kept, rotate it between AT&T, NRG and the Alamo Dome. Why should the Dallas area benefit every year?

I’ve heard one reason, I’m not sure how exact it is but, that attendance fell when it was at NRG because the Dallas teams don’t travel well. This makes the UIL lose money and they don’t want that. I personally believe Jerry has struck a hell of a deal with UIL that they can’t say no to. Some say that NRG is not real easy to deal with also. So it will most likely stay at AT&T Stadium. That’s okay with me because if PNG ever goes back we will fill it again.

Well, this is DCTF Magazine journalist Matt Stepps opinion on rotating venues. He needs to get over himself if he really thinks the request to rotate venues is gonna increase just because DFW swept the Championships this year! That has NOTHING to do with it! Venues should be rotated to keep it fair due to the travel cost for the schools and fans.

Rotating between the major venues would spread out the travel and also benefit the economies of those areas. Plus, as great as AT&T Stadium is, a stadium with 60-65K is plenty big enough and would potentially be a better game environment versus the cavernous size of AT&T. Also, the big screen almost becomes an irritating distraction from the game. And the additional traffic and crowd makes navigating to/from the game, and getting seated more difficult.

How about venues big enough for each classification that makes sense for the involved communities? Like the old days.

The obvious driver for the single venue is the revenue from the big events that involved organizations receive.

Matt Step should realize that travel costs are more of a detriment right now for a lot of people. That and a lot of people still avoid big crowds due to health concerns.

I like the single venue, but only because it allows all of the state championship games to be televised. However, I have always thought the failure to rotate the venue was a travesty. Very unfair to all of the teams outside of the DFW area, and especially those very distant from it.

I was told by someone in the know that the UIL prefers to hold the State Championships in a domed stadium rather the open venues so they can assure that the games will be played with no chance of lighting delays or any other weather issues. Which makes sense. I personally wish it would rotate between the three but I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

I agree that a domed stadium is best for these games. However, the venue should be rotated as previously suggested. This would at least provide relatively equal access to the games for teams and citizens in the Northern, Southern, and Central regions of the State.
