Great job NDN'S!! I know they won their semi-final game, but who did they play in the final, and what was the score?

Great job!! Giblin looked good and the Gordon? Kid looked good. Lufkin looked some kinda a tall and fast.

One guy brought up the last time we went back to back 7-7, was 98/99, look what Matt Burnett and Long did --State Game!!!

It would be great if Faircloth and Morse could do the same. Faircloth may be a better Qb coach than Matt??

Can't really compare. Fact is 1999 team of Burnett and Long played for the State Championship.

Good luck PNG!!

The boys did a great job. For the Indians to make a long playoff run will require more defense than weve had in several years. The change to the 4-3 may help some. I guess we wil see I will see some of you for 2 a days in a few weeks!!!!

Faircloth is a better qb coach than M. Long. And this will be a controversial statement, but Morse is as good, if not better than D. Long was. Morse can sling the ball and has already claimed most of the PNG passing records in just one season. Barring injury, he will hold them all by the end of his senior year.

I tend to agree with you on that. Faircloth who is not without his faults is a good QB coach.

Our offense is going to be great and unstoppable, our season will depend if we decide to play defense this year. We haven't played aggressive defense for several years so don't see any changes. We need size on the defensive line and big mean LB and DB's!!!

Only way Morse is "better" is because we throw it much, much more.

PNG plays for the State Champ game AND Morse goes BIG D1 then they may make that claim.

Till then the leaders are still Ethride and Ethridge, Fry and Ethridge, hawthorn and Ford/Macollum, then Burnett and Long.

Period --- 3state champions and 2 state finalist

All else is pure speculation.

I am not sure why a few won't give Matt credit--unless maybe they didn't get to play?.

Record is as good as BF AND playoff wins smoke him, especially with the State appearance. Fact sometimes confuse people's view.

I agree, hardware in the trophy case matters. 1974-1977 put hardware in the trophy case. Richy Ethridge was a much better passer than he is given credit for and he played in an era when running the ball was still the preferred way to move the football down the field. In 1975 and 1976, when PN-G needed a big play, Richy Ethridge could throw the ball on a rope for big gains. He could roll out and throw it downfield. His best asset was being a field general and controlling the PN-G offense, i.e., getting PN-G out of a bad play and putting them into a better play at the line of scrimmage. That came from being a coach's son and understanding where the defense was lined up trying to take away an advantage. He was a leader. Ask his teammates from 1975-1976 and they will tell you he was a winner. He knew that he could put the PN-G offense in position to make a big play and win the game. Plus, it didn't hurt to have strong defenses shutting other teams down.

My picks would be:

Doug Ethridge/Richy Ethridge (1975-1976)
Matt Burnett (Mike Long)/Dustin Long (1997-1999)
Doug Ethridge/David Fry (1977)
The QBs who played in the 1950s before my time
Coach Faircloth and his group of Brennan Doty (2009-2010) and Adam Morse (2014-2015).

I'd love to see Faircloth/Morse make a big jump up my list! That would mean a special season in 2015. I'm ready for one of those seasons where PN-G plays during the week of Thanksgiving and into December.

The knock on MB and Dustin Long was that Mike Long called the plays from the press box, they were give to Dustin Long and he had the freedom to audible. When you have a QB like Richy Ethridge or Dustin Long, i.e., above average talent with the ability to audible and change things at the line of scrimmage from a bad play to a big play, you have something special. Ethridge and Long could do that and they made it look easy. Ethridge did it through the ground game and the air and Long did it through the air with lots of big-time throws. Those guys made defenses look silly at times.

But, I hear you Bark...MB should get credit for going 14-2 with a bad-a$$ defense in 1999. The defense in 1999 could knock people out. Strong run defense and very good against the pass. Only Stephenville made the defense look gassed and out of sync. As much as he gets dinged for 5-5 teams and boring offenses (run, run, pass, punt), he gets credit for 1999.

Go Indians. Peace.

P.S. Back on topic...Congratulations to the 2015 7 on 7 PN-G Indians. Good luck at the state tournament. Go Indians. Peace.

Matt should definately also get credit for putting together a stellar staff in the 1999 season. They had some great coaches that season.

With the growth of the Dallas, Austin and Houston area It will be hard for schools like PNG to get back to State. It would take a special group of talent to do it. With only around 1400 enrollment its hard to compete against large wealthy schools with around 2000.

hookem14 i have great respect for your post and I believe that a sensible person would agree. However I truely believe that in sports and moreso football has that one extra thing that intangible. Its called will and heart. PNG has always been known to play with it. They play with a chip on their shoulder. It take an extremely rare group of kids to all come through at the right time centered around a good qb or a stout running game all this has to be in conjunction with a great defense. These things all fell together in 1999. We had what I self describe a defensive genius in Matt Burnett. I believe we had one of our best WR core in team history for the best QB in team history to throw to. We had a OC who taught his boy to not only throw the ball with the best of them but to read a defense how to play chess with the defense.( as on exhibit in the PNG Lamarque Game ) 22-6 PNG as heavily favored underdogs. His son could run a 4.6 40 and could take of if needed. We had two 1000 yard backs due in large part to another Matt Burnett specialty the running game. The good ole Bo Wortham sweep or the Bergeron inside trap. The Defense was led by Chris Gohlke who was the literal spear of the team. That defense was truely a special one in our history. What was amazing is the fact that you really didnt know how good they were until late in the season. I didnt realize what I was seeing because of the show long and company was putting on for us spectators. Boy what a year that was. Ill always remember it.. Go get them Indians in 2015!!!!
