One of our fellow Indians from the Round Rock area sent me this image to pass along.

This is a shot as the celebration begins in the 1975 State final game PNG vs Odessa Permian.
The team lifts Coach Doug Ethridge on their shoulders as the Indian faithful celebrate. As 15PNG says: Chilling!

Yes it is. I wasn't able to go to the state championship game because I had to work. I was so mad. I listened on the radio and the crowd was wild. I would have loved to have been there and seen the sea of purple in Texas Stadium. I hope I get the chance one day and this year would be soon enough for me.

My grandmother had surgery that week. The Dr. wanted to release her to go home the Friday and she told him she couldn't go home and he asked her why. She said I won't have a ride or anyone to take care of me, they are all going to Dallas. She was right, we were all in Dallas and one of the nurses came to her room and listened to the game on the radio with her. My cousin played in that game.

It was a great experience. I wouldn't buy a championship sticker for my car until the game was over because I was afraid I would jinx the outcome plus who wanted to leave the game to go to the concession runway to make a purchase, to the rest room, or anything. Bought the sticker after the game, later sold the car for $1 but charged the fellow $299 for the stick. Wish I had them both back. STickers in Dallas will be a lot more than $1 this year but I am sure ready to buy some.

That's a great photo that brings back a lot of memories. Wouldn't it be great to repeat that photo with this year's team and coaches?! I say let's make another great photo oppurtunity and memory this year.

My parents have a UNUSED State Champ sticker in a scrapbook along with the medal we each got for winning it.
The players are: 63 Kevin Hebert, 80 Carl(worm) Frey, 60 Daspit(glasses), Aguilard 6'6" holding Ethridge, Carswell (went to Forest Park as HC) and I think the other is Bruce Bush, but it could be Butch Troy. To the left looks like #55 which was Mike Boudreaux.

Wouldn't be great to go win the whole thing again - like Ethridge said "Fellas, ya gotta believe"

It's not Barney Baby Bop. It's the spirit the lives within all of us who have ever walked the halls of not just PNG High School, but any of the schools in PNGISD as a student, teacher, coach, janitor, cafateria worker, bus driver, etc. It is the spirit that over comes you as a parent who graduated from some other school watching your child participate as an INDIAN. It is the HONOR, PRIDE AND TRADITION of the INDIAN NATION. And you are so right, some will never get it but will envy those of us who have it.

I remember Coach Ethridge letting us parents into the boy's locker room after the game and the boys all crying and screaming and they were lifting me up and we all got sweaty! (BTW, I was a lot smaller then! lol) That group of kids were so close to each other and still are. It's amazing how many of them I saw at PNG's games this past season. Some came far distances to see the Indians again. One said to me that "it kinda hurts when you know you can't go back to those Friday nights but I can still cheer these players on." All I want is one more state championship before I die.
