Attendance Record

There's speculation that the TX high school attendance record will be broken today with the state championship tripleheader at Cowboys Stadium.

Regardless, the single game record will likely stand for a very long time.

State attendance record still stands, but more than 43,000 watch Euless Trinity-Pearland championship at Cowboys Stadium
11:45 PM CST on Saturday, December 18, 2010

Cowboys Stadium tallied single-game attendance counts for each game. The first game between Denton Ryan and Austin Lake Travis had an announced attendance of 20,487. The second game between Denton Guyer and Cibolo Steele had an announced attendance of 37,774. The crowd was announced at 43,321 for the nightcap between Euless Trinity and Cibolo Steele.

The record for single-game attendance is 49,953, set in 1977 at a game between Plano and Port Neches-Groves at Texas Stadium.

Triple header at new Cowboys Stadium, several big name North and Central Texas schools playing, and the prospect of watching 3 games for the price of one... If the record wasn't broken yesterday I don't think it ever will be.

Since it is unlikely that the UIL will ever again have a single game championship, any new record, if established, would/should have an asterisk by it.

IndianFan, I am sure not wanting to argue but I think it can and will be broken and maybe not to far in the future. Just wait until the Indians are in the finals...then we will hold the record for Texas Stadium and Cowboy Stadium and it won't take four other teams playing on the same day to make it happen. I'm planning on being there. How about you?

I don't. We were sitting on the 50 and had a son playing in that game and the stands were full! Many fans from schools in our district were there and the crowd was ecstatic. It can happen again--I have faith in BF and our true fans will be there-- walkers, canes and whatever it takes.
I want one more before I die!

It takes two heavily supported teams to make that happen. PNG's following plus 4 seasons of playoff hype and excitement + playing in Plano's 'front yard' back when there were only 4 championships games period = a special set of circumstances. And now the games are televised statewide. Take 1999 for example, the Indians brough 30,000+ to Houston but Stephenville only had about 5,000 fans travel. Plus that was a double header. 39,000 was the attendance.

Different era, different circumstances. If it didn't happen Saturday at Texas Stadium with E. Trinity, Denton Ryan, Lake Travis, and the other teams playing, it's a longshot. But I agree, if it does, PNG will likely be a part of it.
