I was impressed with the defense, but I'm worried about the offense. We couldnt do anything on Offense Friday and the play calling was very vanilla. PNG 28 BU 7

Not sure if Bailey would be ready. He did have some zip on the ball in the scrimmage. Question does he see the field well? Any thoughts on him getting in the mix. And would Gardiner be used offense or defense.

First game of the season against a solid defense. 7 starters back from last season for Port Arthur. Especially their d backs and linebackers. Memorial will give every offense fits this year. PN-G offensive line was disrupted with Jackson out and two other players having to move around or step in, plus the new starters. They’ll play much better and the running backs will have some holes to run through. Shea Adams had flashes of good play. Almost 100 yards rushing and some good passes. The receivers struggled to get separation anyway. Looks like Adams just needs to settle in. It’s a great option to have the ball in his hands every play. And don’t forget that a couple of years ago a lot of fans were saying that he had a better arm than Crippen and should have been the starter. Shea Adams has a lot of great games ahead of him as QB. And the offense will improve overall.

Anyone know about Beaumont United's personnel? Are they a spread team? Any key skilled players we should keep an eye on when BU comes to Port Neches?

2023 DCTF Preview - Beaumont United

Coach: Darrell Colbert. Lettermen R/L: 18/17. Starters returning O/D: 3/4. 2022: 1-9/0-7 district.

Players to watch: OL Weston Davis (6-6, 290), OL Trevanti Davis (6-5, 285), DL Christian Gladney (5-11, 260, 4.8), QB/DB Gilbert Anderson III (5-9, 160, 4.6), DL Edward Taylor, Jr. (6-1, 270), DB Javarious Phoenix (5-9, 150, 4.6). Top juniors: LB Cedric McGill (5-10, 180, 4.6), RB/LB Dei’Sean Hope (5-10, 185, 4.5). Top sophomore: RB Derrian Anderson (5-8, 165, 4.7).

Other prospects: OL Antonio Lewis, OL Malahki Lee, DL Guy Curl, RB Timothy Morris, Jr., RB Naqualan Comier, DL Zion Cooper, WR/DB Jaron Daniels.

2023 notes: As expected, Beaumont United struggled in its first season at the 6A level while playing in one of the state’s toughest districts as one of the state’s smallest 6A schools. The Timberwolves should be able to hold up in the trenches as they bring back two outstanding anchors on the offensive line in Weston Davis and Trevanti Davis, asnboth are FBS level recruits with major upside. The defensive line has a pair of anchors in DL Gladney and junior DL Taylor Jr. The skill positions will have some young talent. One player back with experience is QB/DB Anderson III (420 yards, 3 TDs passing; 3 INTs). He’ll be expected to contribute on both sides of the ball. Aside from overall depth, Colbert says inexperience at WR and LB are concerns heading into 2023.

Sophomore Aaron Wolford just received an offer from Texas Tech!
Watched a couple of series with focus on Wolford, and he is a terrific sophomore. Quick on his feet, big, strong, keeps his feet under him and stays with his block. Maybe at a higher level than Jansen Ware was as a soph, and Ware was damned impressive his first season.

Against Memorial Wolford was going up against #41, DE Michael Riles (6-4, 240, 4.8), who is considered an FBS level type of player. Wolford dominated him every play that I watched. To steal a Samuel L. Jackson line from the first Jurassic Park, "hold on to your butts" opponents. This Indian line is going to steamroll you when they are back to full strength and with a couple more games behind them.

Never surprised when TC has a good team. They have a long, proud history.

FBM, PNG, TC and Dayton were picked to be the top 4 teams in the district. Time will tell.
