Just a Quick look at the bracket tells me Ned has once again set us up in the hardest half of the bracket while they placed themselves among 3A schools. I guess if it's your tourney and you set the brackets that's just how it is.

I can't find any good info on Baytown Sterling so I guess we will see when we get there. If we can manage a W against them our second game would be against one of these three teams:

Galveston Ball - #1 ranked 4A team in the state and carrying 12 seniors on a 13 man roster.
Humble Christian Life - Carries 10 players that are 6'5" or taller
HCYA - Two Big Men that are 6'8" and 6'10"

No matter how it ends up we should be able to improve as a result of the quality of competition we will play in this tournament.

We looked bad today! Poor passing killed us and somebody other than doty better step up and start shooting the ball. We can't win with only one guy taking shots! He can't do it by himself. It seems to me the more the coach sits over there and yells at the kids the less they actually TRY! It looks like he has beat them down to where they don't want to be the one with the ball so they won't get yelled at. This group just doesnt look like they are responding well to the yelling and hollering. I actually had a fan from another team tell me he really enjoyed the PNG games cause he always got a laugh watching the coach! That says something right there. Our coach needs to coach the kids not beat them down. I am surprised there are so many on the team, if you watch when a sub comes into a game he always looks scared to death! I wonder why?

Haven't seen the girls coach. I know a thing or two about getting the most out of people and I will say there are times when everyone needs a not so gentle push but NOBODY will perform well under the constant threat of being harassed in front of their peers. I don't have a kid on this team but if I did I believe I would have to say something to the coach and maybe even our athletic director himself. Faircloth seems to be of the mindset that encouragement brings out the best in the athletes and he seems to save the "stick" for situations where it is warranted I am a little surprised this is going on under his watch. It didn't seem quite as bad last year but the year or two before that it was really bad. Seems like it has come full circle.

Looks to me we simply need to play some very basic basketball. Penetrate and take the shot or dump it back outside to the open guy. Also we have a kid that is 6'6" and we don't work it into him very much. That should be a staple of our offense. Defensively we look pretty good. All of the points scored against us tonight were scored off steals and bad passes under pressure on our guards. WORK ON THE PRESS BREAK FOR GODS SAKE!!!

I think our coach is coaching in the PNG tradition when it comes to basketball. He played for Bryson I believe and that is exactly the same way Bryson did it. And it did not produce winning teams back then either! The shame is we have some talent and they are really getting a bit of an unfair shake. Look i happen to like coach Able and I believe he has good knowledge of the game. I have been watching this year and I can say that he does seem to be a little more aggressive this year. I am going to give my son a bit of advise tonight and see if he takes it at tomorrows game. My son has let me know he is very frustrated with the whole situation and is not having fun. I intend to help him change that.

Carzan, you ripped me last year when I said I didn't care for Abels coaching style. His problem is he thinks yelling all the time motivates the players and it doesn't. He only involves 1 or 2 players in his offensive game. This has been the way for YEARS!! I stopped going to Basketball games 2 yrs ago because I was sick and tired of his coaching style and the way he screams at his players. There has several times I was completed embarrassed by him. So I will stick to my orginal thought which I don't think he is a good coach...sorry.

Justafan, I do remember us having a discussion about Able and his "style" maybe I "ripped" you. If I did I apologize. Maybe I am coming around. I am more in the undecided column this season when it comes to our coach, his methods and his ability to communicate with the kids in game situations. For me, the jury is still out.

I really want these boys to have a great season. Hopefully things will turn for them shortly.

No apolizies needed. I am like you, just want the boys to do well. I think there should be some talent there this year and want them to have the best chances to win. I plan on making some games this year, but work has been crazy.

At the Dogdome. About to watch the game I believe will be the true championship game of this tourney, Galveston ball vs Humble Christian Academy.

I'll report on the game if it's what I think it will be.

The Galveston Ball vs Humble Christian Academy game was indeed most likely the Championship game of the Tournament. These are two really good basketball teams! Ball won it 86-80.

Ball got out to an early lead but never could put them away. Every time it looked like Ball was going to pull away from them the Academy would come back with a flurry of points. With 10 guys 6'5" or taller I would have expected a lot more inside play from HCA. Instead they settled for a ton of three point shots and unfortunately for them, they could not get them to fall. I don't know if they were cold or not but I have to suspect that was the case or it would seem to me the coach wouldn't have stuck with that plan. If these guys actually can shoot the three pointer with more than 30% consistency they would be unbeatable. I will try to catch another game of theirs to see how they perform.

Ball just plays good solid basketball on both ends of the court. They are quick and good in transition, and they hustle hard under the basket for rebounds all while committing very few fouls to be playing as physical as they do.

I understand how they are a highly ranked team in the state of texas!
