Which coach was the first coach to have a booster club and which coach disbanded the booster club due to discord among members? I know the answers. Who else does or wants to make an educated guess?

I'll guess Coach Moore during the late 1950s or early 1960s was the 1st coach to have a booster club and Coach O.A. "Bum" Phillips was the coach to disband the booster club? If not Bum, then perhaps Coach Ken Watson disbanded the club? These are just pure guesses on my part. I'm just happy we have it back. Thank you, Coach Faircloth. It is necessary for fundraising. We've been way behind the leading programs in the State of Texas (i.e., Katy, Stephenville, Southlake Carroll, Odessa Permian, North Shore, The Woodlands, Calallen, Austin Westlake, San Marcos, etc.) We've been behind Nederland, our neighbors. It's time to close the gap.

What sayeth you about my guesses? Yea or nay? Thanks.

Go Indians. Peace.

OK--this is what I heard from a reliable source. Bum Phillips started the booster club and, when it caused problems, disbanded it.

The booster club will work if members/supporters remember why it exists. Ideally personal/political agendas will stay out of it and providing needs will remain the focus.
Hopefully the board of directors will have the insight to keep that nonsense in check.

One thing that a lot of people haven't thought about is the fact that the booster club is going to have a lot of competition at the football games. PTSA, the Band Action Committee, and several more PTAs from other schools sell merchandise at the games. These organizations stay competitive with each other, and the booster club is going to have to stay competitive as well if they have any hope of maintaining a steady source of income. Hopefully, that competitive mentality will keep the members focused on the goals of the booster club and not their own, but there's no guarantee of that.

I agree. Just because it didn't work before doesn't mean it won't work this time. I'm all for it. BTW, do the citizens get any vote in the Board of Trustees or it a "handpicked" deal already? One more question, are females invited along with males or it an all-male organization?

I would think that this organization is willing to accept any and all potential members, regardless of gender. After all, it is an athletic booster club, meaning that it will support all athletics, including girls' athletics. Besides that, I'm pretty sure they'll be willing to take all the help they can get to get this thing off the ground, considering that there are already competing organizations with large presences at each of the games.

Im betting that the booster club will have strong success and a large presence at games. I've heard many adults wishing for a booster club. Not trying to start a competition, but the other organizations may lose business to the booster club.

I think so, too. But, with the new booster club, I think that the other organizations are going to create new, enterprising, creative ways of selling merchandise. We've got a brand new stadium, a brand new coach, a jumbotron, and a couple of new schools/wings. There's definitely a sizable amount of resources for these organizations to use to their advantage, and I think we're going to see a highly competitive market at the games. I also think that we're going to see several of them branch out and start selling merchandise at some of the games for the other sports (i.e. baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, etc.). It's already started, to a certain extent. The BAC sold some candles in the lunch periods at school this year and PTSA tried selling some stuff at the basketball games to recoup the losses they took with the lack of home football games this year. I'm not trying to say that it's a bad thing because, in fact, I think it's a good thing and something we should have started doing a long time ago. I just think that this is what's going to happen.

It opens up a lot of potential. There are a lot of PNG alumni that have moved away and looking for official donation options. I've heard from many for years asking that very question.

Everyone is welcome, (men and women) this booster club is for all athletic programs boys and girls. If you attend the meeting tonite I am sure Coach Faircloth ( who is leading the meeting) will answer all your questions about the booster club.

I feel like Coach answered most questions anyway. I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout and the diversity of individuals there. I have more time than most to offer and hope there are some duties I can do to help the organization succeed. One thing for darned sure---my blood is very purple. BTW, Proud, it was nice meeting you. I remember your parents and one of your sisters who used to work for Inside Ideas; nice PN family.

It was nice meeting you too Squaw. And after I got home, I started wondering if I had already known you from the old C B Radio days. I was known as "Skipper" back then. Now THOSE were some fun times!

When is everyone gonna come out of the "closet", meet up somewhere, tip a few and have some good old PNG discussions? This goes to show you that we all can get along while having some different views on some things IF we all love the Indians!!
