I just don’t understand the lack of fundamentals these kids have. Whose coaching the lower levels? They have a clue?
These kids that are juniors were undefended district champs in 9th Grade outscoring opposition 485-85 only giving up 8.5 ppg that season

I watched most of the game replay on TexanLive. Fundamental execution not there at too many positions. You can’t beat a good opponent like that. The team has the ability to do better.

A few positives. #72 Jansen Ware did an incredible job shutting down #40 and #45 for Crosby. There was one play where he let the rusher get past him while focused on another defender. #18 Prosperie made some excellent catches and showed off his speed on that first TD.

On defense some of the players battled all night. Some did not. You’ve got to go 100% from snap to whistle if you’re going to be a starter. Lot of room to improve fundamentals, angles and effort on defense. The coaches can see that on film. Find 11 fundamentally sound players that are ready to go 100% every play.

Fix that stuff and prepare harder for TC. It’s not good enough to slip into the playoff back door. Win each play and win out in district.

That’s what I just don’t get. We play the same 11 on defense. We don’t rotate much. We need some much needed personnel changes on defense.

When you see a player or two literally jogging to the point of contact and not being there to make the tackle or while an opponent is sprinting down the field, or not laying the wood on a tackle, a big alarm goes off. This is not a way to play winning football. At any level, pro, college, high school, youth league, get that off the field. Play the game right or sit.
This is not meant to be critical of individuals. But dang it, this is PNG football. Leave it better than you found it. Make yourself part of the history.

And to heck with the offensive records. There’s more to it than that. Let’s see some defensive records!

First time in a long time I left before the game was over. I actually left 3 mins into the 2nd Qtr. I was embarrassed.

I hear what all of you are saying about our defense, and I too would like to see a better performance. If you look across the state of Texas and see scores from all around it is the same thing everywhere. 40-50 something to 20-30 something. This is just the way football is going now a days. Most of the time we are the ones putting up more numbers than the other team, but sometimes we are not and that is the landscape of Highschool football especially in the higher divisions.

I agree - defense just isn’t as much a priority these days.

My favorite part of the game is slowly starting to fade away.

Totally agree. Offensive schemes will cause mismatches and a good QB will get the ball to them. Good offenses are going to score until they run into a really good defense. Playing defense with good fundamentals, technique and effort still apply and will at least limit gains and scoring. The day that teams or players don’t care about playing defense is the day football should just stop being played.
