When that fine young student prayed for us tonight at the game! And the fans LOVED IT!

Thanks Mr. Cavness.

The past few years observing the moment of silence has been slightly better than nothing. But tonight to have a student pray out loud at the game just felt like being at home. You hear so much negative comments about young people. I am so proud that Pt. Neches & Groves has students who aren't afraid to stand up for the what is right and what they believe in. I commend you young adults.

and thanks to our new school board for listening to us fans! I understand that the student has been told he cannot do this again, so another student gets to give a PNG moment of silence. ;D ;D

The school board only sets the budget, sets policy, hires/fires/evaluates the superintendent, and hears grievances. That is ALL they are supposed to do. Unless they drafted a policy affecting this since last Friday, they have drastically overstepped their bounds if they made a decision for this to happen. The decision would be left to administrators, NOT to board members.

IF they drafted and approved policy, I'd like to know where the meeting was and if was posted for the public. These things require a quorum and cannot be done behind closed doors.

I have no doubt that another student will step up to the challenge because we have great kids at PNG.

A friend who is a parent called me and said the entire idea for the prayer was from a parent and some students. The school board and school administration has nothing to do with this decision at all. Kudos from the parent who clarified this for us.

I believe that anyone with standing can challenge it. Example would be a student from another school that must attend the game as part of class (athlete, band member etc.), but it might not even be that rigorous of a standard and might include anyone that attends or plans to attend. So if a Muslim student from another school wants to recite a prayer, they can quote this as precedent and request access to the PA system, which the PNGISD provided in this case.

I think it was great that the student led / and shared a prayer with the public last night. W e should have been doing this even before now. I hope this continues from now on and other students get to share / lead a prayer with the fans!

So why did you use a religious experience that this student and parent hold close to their heart to promote the "new" board? Very classless and very uncalled for especially when, as you said yourself, you didn't have any information saying that the board made the decision. Way to use this experience to promote your friends on the board.

png93-I would support ANYBODY who supports prayer of any kind. I don't need to "promote the new board" because they are elected and doing a great job! You know, you are a bitter man since you went to work at BASF or Total, whichever one it is. I have always been respectful and nice to you.

Not bitter, just pointing out the facts.

Which would be fine if your facts were accurate. I responded to someone's statement, then found out what the facts really are and posted that. Would you rather I not find the truth and report it?

Or better yet, stop deciding for everyone else what the 'facts' are. Most of us are more than capable of discovering information and understanding a situation.
