Jasper Scrimmage-lets hear it!

Hopefully something positive came out of this scrimmage. I know it doesn't mean anything for record purposes, but to get spanked 5 TD's to 1 isn't good. I wasn't there so I can't really be too negative, but from what I hear Jasper ran and threw the ball at will on our defense. Also, I was told that our offense had trouble finishing out drives. They need to get back to work, and I would be putting them on the dirt field instead of the nice new field and tell them they have to earn to be on the nice field, but that's just me. I just hope the nice facility doesn't go to thier heads. I like the smash mouth style of football. Anyways practice hard this week and get ready to strap it on against Memorial. Only two weeks until the real games began. Good luck, and scalp'em

Unacceptable to get spanked like that. It was the first scrimmage for both teams so there are no excuses. I know our "D" will take time, but we have 6 starters back on offense and could not collect more than maybe one first down in live game action.

Less talk about having 'all american' players and more blood and sweat on the field will do wonders. They can still get it together in time.

This does not mean anything we are still working out positions and Jasper is a great football team with a greaat coach and extremely talented players. I have no doubt that we will be a good team this season Dont let this get you down. Our defense is all new and our offense is talented it will take some time. Once again great effort by Jasper.

Not trying to be negative. Just wondering if maybe they were working out the kinks in some new schemes. Also, how much did the ones that we know will be starters play versus how much did those on the JV/Varsity bubble play?

I am not trying to be negative either. I hope they developed some new schemes also.

I'm not worried in the least. Heck, look at last yr... we didn't score a point for the 1st 2 games, before proper adjustments were made. Gotta give them time. That's what scrimmages and pre-season are all about.

I would usually agree, but our defense only gave up 18 to the defending state champs and 7 to a playoff team in Crosby in those two games. This scrimmage it sounded like our defense was way away from being ready. PNG plays off of the defense. The offense does not have quick strike capabilities to keep up if the defense is like swiss cheese! I hope they get it turned around before district. Matt has his work cut out this year.

a good friend told me that yes it was bad but not that bad we just got to get our heads out of the sky and back in the dirt and we will be fine. i exepected it to be this way with such a young defense its only a scrimage but when the time comes we will be ready :shout: :helmet: :helmet: :helmet: :punchingbag:

Here is the breakdown I got from someone who was there.

Defense....The safety (Lynch?) and Shetley were the only two who were making steady plays. The CB'd were beat consistently and it would have been worse if the Jasper QB could have made a deep throw. We really need to improve on tackling and find a way to cover someone.

Offense.....Despite the sub-par performance, there is some hope there. The line was big, but struggled in pass protection. The tackles were being blown by. Tatum is entering his third year and needs to learn there is more than one WR on the field. He looked once and threw whether the guy was open are not. No progression through his reads. This has to change. Wright was caught from behind a few times and needs to show the 4.5 speed.

Like I said, these are not my words, so don't shoot the messenger.

I imagine Tatum is told were to throw just a guess though we are going to be fine this season it should be a decent one for us

If a coach is telling the QB to lock onto one player and throw to them only, then they should be fired. There is a reason there is more than one player running routes.

My personal opinion is that our pass protection is probably not focused on a whole lot in practice and it shows on Friday's. Answer this....when was the last time anyone saw a PN-G QB have a play break down and they make a play on the run? It don't happen. We have to have people making plays in the passing game. The running game can only do so much.

Our kids and coaches have had 1 or 2 weeks of practice and 1 scrimmage vs. Jasper. Give the coaches and players some time to break down the film and make adjustments. If MB has shown anything in his 14 years as HC at PN-G, it is his tenacity to find kids who want to get excited and make plays on defense. I'm no coach, but I'm guessing MB and the staff will use the next week or 2, plus the PAM scrimmage, to find some players who really want to strap on the purple and white gear and go play. MB will find some kids who want to play defense ... if he has to find SOPHs or younger kids who want to get after it and make some stops, he will do it. As for the offense, we'll miss having a big back ala Josh Cook and Jake Hemmings. Let's hope the offense will find a groove like it did in 2007. Patience is a virture. Use the scrimmages schedule and pre-district games to find the kids who want to make plays. Spread the field, drop back, and sling that ball down field ... then load up and pound the ball ... then, drop back and throw that ball around. Here's to a great 2008. No one gets a District Championship for the 1st scrimmage. Keep the faith.

Go Indians. Peace.

I think it's a little early to form opinions about how tough or weak the team may be. Scrimmages are designed so that coaches and players can test out plays that they have been running through in practice on a team that doesn't know what's coming. Jasper obviously has a good start and have some plays that went off well. PN-G also had some good plays and things that worked also. They also learned a few things that didn't work. Let's see how they take that information and what changes they make because of it. The good news and the best thing about the scrimmage is that it doesn't count as a win/loss. We still have 1 more scrimmage and 3 games for these young men to get in a rhythm so that we can get the job done in district.

Rome wasn't built in a day.... let’s show some support for these young men and encourage them to dig deep. We have an entire season of football ahead of us.

SCALP EM INDIANS!!

No panic here, but I do think they need to be working harder than they did last week. Sounds like they need to be practicing on some form and gang tackling. You want guys swarming to the ball, PNG has always done that pretty well with the lack of size in the past. You have to be able to wrap up especially against fast teams because one miss tackle could be six points which is what happened. Still have a long ways to go, but hopefully this can be a motivation to the guys that are slacking and not working hard to get better. I don't care what grade thier in, if they want to strap it on and get after it let'em play. Here's to a great season and playoffs. Go get'em boys!
