Liberty Hill

After perusing the various media sources out there concerning Liberty Hill, a reoccurring theme I hear from Liberty Hill is ‘toughness’. They pride themselves on being tough.

The Indians are not only going against an accomplished and fundamentally skilled team, as unorthodox as they may be, they are meeting up with a mindset.

One key to countering opposing strengths, in addition to physical strengths and weaknesses, X’s and O’s, etc, is to understand the oppositions mindset.

LH is on the field with the focused attention of outworking, outhitting and out-executing their opponent. They are on that field with the perception that they will outfight you and beat you. This is not altogether different than past PNG teams who once ran a basic Power I scheme with very limited game plans. Those Indian teams knew what they were going to do, executed it with precise detail and went at you with the mindset of beating the man in front of them. They focused on being the best they could be, executing and forcing their will on opponents.

2022 PNG players would do well to expect the same with Liberty Hill, absorb it and return it with added ferocity. Not commit fouls but to make a statement early that we are here, we know what you’re doing and we’re going to stop you.

LH has some advantage of being a regional and state force for a number of years and having been in this position often in recent history. But this is 2022 and the Indians are formidable in their own right and should not feel intimidated. This game will be trench warfare when on defense. When on offense, the Indians should be able to utilize all weapon systems. This one will be a different kind of battle but the Indians have the required ability to win it. No mistakes, no cheap penalties. play disciplined defense, achieve your assignment every play and stay focused for 4 quarters.

Well said. If anyone can stop it, it'll be our boys. I'm with you, I don't see them being able to stop our offense. Our defense will need to force as many turnover on downs as possible. One thing for certain, I feel very confident our Defense will attack with everything they have.

On film LH does things that are borderline illegal. I’ve seen some frequent holding, particularly by the center, and some defensive players going low into the legs of blockers. That hitting low business is dangerous and should be called as a flagrant foul. I hope the refs are keeping their eyes open.

Definitely. We’ve all probably encountered ‘tough guys’ who only understand the same. Once they take a few return football hits in the trenches from Hernandez, Baker and Broom, it might take some vinegar out of them. You can bet that’s LH’s plan so we’re going to see who the tougher team is very quickly. If the Indians can score a few times and stop them a time or two early, and stay strong for 48 minutes, I like our chances.
