Local Newspapers

After decades of eagerly waiting for articles about PNG football and game results in the PA News, I realize today that it’s a waste of time. Typically there were midweek articles about a PN-G player, Friday articles discussing the upcoming game, and of course Saturday articles covering the game outcome. Now it seems that covering PN-G football is no longer a priority. Their resources seem to be committed to Port Arthur and Nederland teams with only a sprinkling of PN-G coverage now and then. Disappointing.

Now that NDN Press has moved into the broadcasting arena, maybe they will eventually begin a sports journalism effort as well to fill the written void.

You are 100% correct. The Saturday morning game stories and box scores are gone. The Monday through Wednesday features on local teams and players are gone. The Thursday yardsticks and team stats are gone. The Friday pre-game summaries and kick-off coverage are gone. The weekly "I Beat Bob West" contest and picking against local car dealerships and other businesses are gone. RIP Bob West, God rest his soul. The PA News is a total waste of time. The reporting is pathetic. If not for the www.pngindians.com website and this message board, I would have no access to news, stats, and opponent previews. I've gone to two games (Texas City and Fort Bend Willowridge) and I can't even buy a program at the game. Neither Texas City nor Fort Bend Willowridge offered a program or roser AT THE GAME. Unbelievable. Again, but for the PN-G website and message board, I would have no idea who the players are for PN-G. If Port Arthur fell off the map, I would not give it a second look. The Beaumont Enterprise isn't any better. Thanks to the Good Lord for www.pngindians.com, this message board, and the PN-GISD's NDN Press. I will climb down from my soap box now. Apologies if I sound like the old man who says, "Get off my lawn!" Go Indians.

They still manage to do stories on PAM and Nederland players. Seems to be some bias there. Disappointing and a far cry from the days of the total sports coverage you mentioned. Why they would chose to not represent a 30,000+ community that presumably buys or subscribes to their newspapers is a mystery.

I don’t know what’s going on, but I know the editor-in-chief over there was laid off a few months back. I suspect that has something to do with it.

I wonder how many people in Groves and Port Neches subscribe to the P A News. The last time I was on their web site the stated number of subscribers was between 2400 and 2500.
