If you marched in the 80s to early 90s, you probably recognize some of these tracks from the Jensen Marching Band albums. Jensen was a major publisher of marching band music back then and released an album each year with recordings that were performed by college bands. They were fun to Iisten to on the Klipsch speakers in the band hall.

Cool stuff. I was never in a marching band but did take band/music class as an elective in Jr High. Mr Charles was the band instructor. The first song we learned was ‘Smoke on the Water’.

Mr. Charles came back to help out around the band hall at the high school and middle schools every now and then when I was in school. Occasionally, he’d substitute for one of the band directors. He was a favorite among the students.

Take a look at this video clip from 1977. PN-G had a military style marching band. What is the name of the last song? Starting around the 5:40 mark.

Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, which is also the theme to 2001:A Space Odyssey.

I was in the stands watching as 10 year old, my brother was the soloist on Brian’s Song.

Do you or your brother have any old videos of the 1975-1977 band performances at the games or during the playoff runs? Any Marching I videos from the 1970s? Good stuff. I enjoyed watching all those videos you posted on YouTube. Nice job.

Thanks.
Unfortunately there are no other videos I am aware of. Back then everything was on film, and the only band films were marching contests. Back in the mid 80s we took all the film reels to KFDM and transferred those to VHS (my Dad worked there). Then in the early 2000s I took that VHS and converted it to digital.

Mr Albert Long was the PNG marching band director for manny years. Band used to start by stepping off to tune Ponderosa March.
