This board has over 5000 Facebook followers. I think if articles or links or comments are posted throughout the week on FB, we could generate some traffic.

The website and message board have lots of visitors, but few participants. I'm not sure why more visitors do not participate on the message board. My guess is privacy or anonymity. Once you post something online, it is there to stay. Some people do not want to be judged or commented upon whenever they post a thought about a particular game or topic. Those that are more opinionated and do not care what others think about them or their posts, well, those are the frequent posters. I have had friends tell me that whenever someone posts a comment that goes against the majority opinion, it seems as if people go into attack mode. Others have told me that they do not enjoy reading about people's agendas. But, I will say, I have several friends who read the website and message board routinely. They love to follow PN-G sports and stay in touch with the vibes in Port Neches and Groves. The website and message boards helps them do that.

The end.

Go Indians. Peace.

I completely agree with this. I would like to see more content filtered to Facebook and Twitter.

I agree with 1989NDN's post. I watch this board ALOT due to the fact that I live far away. In the past I've posted my opinions on things and the "whining" and "If you don't agree with me, you're wrong" stuff is what turns my stomach. I posted after the WOS game and surprisingly didn't receive much flak. I have no interest in posting anything on that other virus website place at all. The stuff that goes on over there..... well that's just bad karma.

Also, given that the broadcasts aren't cutting out anymore online, and there's not someone talking over what is actually going on, that has helped immensely. Man that used to tick me off. Remember this?:

Indians 4th and goal from the 2, there's the the snap......... OH MY, WAYOOOW, UNBELIEVABLE, WAYOOOW, MAN THAT WAS A GREAT PLAY, WAYOOW ...............

I would punch stuff in the house. Wasn't pretty and I'm not proud of those moments.

In October of 2013 there were almost 1,000,000 views. October 2015 is on track for ~ 70,000. That's a radical difference and being the curios person that I am, I want to find the cause and remediate the problem from both a social and software perspective.

I check the message board regularly but don't post as often as I used to. Not sure if it simply because I moved away 6 years ago or for some other reason. I think people have become so accustomed to accessing content through their apps on mobile devices that visiting a messageboard is too much trouble for the average fan; they are used to having content pushed to them on their mobile devices. Also, I think most of the social interaction and exchange of ideas that people sought in messageboards is now being fulfilled by Facebook and Twitter.

I think that's it. Primarily Twitter.

I think that some people who were regulars were turned off by some of the negative nancy's who were on here because of the whole Burnett/Faircloth factions battle. I think they were just plain silly and and petty but I remember some of the faithful members who were turned off by the posting at that time. Some were Burnet supporters some were excited to see fresh blood and a redefintion of PNG football..... I like our new coach and get this I liked Burnett. Its possible I may be a trend setter but I like them both. Just because they are different doesn't bother me. WIsh we had some of our long timers back and I am glad some are gone....

It seems like there's less activity on the SETXSports site than there used to be as well. It may legitimately be that people are getting away from messageboards and trending more toward platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Personally, I hate that. It's hard to have a good, sustained debate on either of those platforms. I don't feel like either of them support dialogue with the same length, depth and detail that you can get into on a messageboard. Then again, I rarely have the time for that anymore.

Lack of controversy may also be an issue. When I was active on this board, the district was in a state of transition in more ways than one, and things were uncertain. The community was being rocked by one thing after another. When I go home to Port Neches now, things seem a lot quieter. It could be that I'm just out of the loop - I live 250 miles away these days, and lived 530 miles away this time last year. But it doesn't seem like there's as much to talk about. There's no coaching search, no school board turbulence, no bond and no administrative turnover. Cherokee's a lot faster and a lot louder than it used to be. It turns out that I was actually a high school kid when I was posting here, just like I said I was. Our last hurricane was seven years ago (knock on wood) - who would've thought we'd be able to say that back then, after going through one after the other for so many years? It seems the only point of contention now is the fact that we've lost to Nederland too many years in a row, and while that is certainly a major issue, it doesn't generate social media activity like those others did.

i agree with bamatex. the messageboard is always going to have more traffic when the team is down or when there is controversy. Right now things are going pretty smoothly, so there is not much for some people to discuss. i know in my case, i usually make every game and have a pretty good grasp of the team, but this year have only been able to make it to a few games. i have just been reading the board and not making any comments.
