Mid County Madness memories

I know we all have a lot of good, bad, and ugly “remember that time…” moments from MCM over the years so I thought it would be fun to share our favorites!

I’ll kick it off! I remember that time MASSIVE amounts of baby powder erupted from the student section and turned MCM into a literal WHITE OUT cause almost everyone ended up COVERED in it…lol! Wasn’t the smartest thing to do cause that stuff is SLIPPERY and caused a lot of issues for people with respiratory problems but it’s DEFINITELY one of the memorable moments that’ll be part of MCM history forever :p

Ahh man I couldn’t stand that powder! I remember one year at their field our student section shot a flare that hit close to their stands - not the smartest idea and I’m pretty sure the kid was escorted out by the cops. Definitely won’t forget that one though.

I remember that some of the Nederland players literally barked and growled during games. Nothing much funnier than an idiot lined up across from you making dog sounds. But that was a long time ago. Surely they no longer do that on the field.

The Flare is unforgettable.
One year in the late 80’s Nederland ran over our run through sign and then circled back to run through their own. Pissed everyone off right away.

My favorite was Bobby August thinking the Black knights of the Neches was going to give them a boost to help them win and we proceeded to beating them in embarrassing fashion. Was it a shutout? 56-0?

Good times.

Yeah, seems like every year there’s some sort of big controversy, prank, drama, or scandal that leaves its mark on MCM History. When memory fades about who won, lost, score…etc. all you gotta do is mention The Baby Powder Bowl, The Flair, Mid County MONSOON amongst others and it all comes back….GOOD TIMES!!
This year could be Mid County MadMESS with the ticket system glitches and seating situation OR possibly MCM BAND WARS after the NISD admin lady created unfinished business by stopping the Drumline Battle last night before a winner could be chosen for reasons nobody really knows, other than she didn’t like the students chanting stuff at each other and said “This is a camaraderie, not a BATTLE”, ummm oookkk KAREN!?! ;):p

Also back in ‘95 (I think?) some Ned players attempted to burn “PNG sux” in the middle of our field the week of the game. All they really did was create a patch of dead grass in the middle of the field.

My senior year we won the game 54-0 Our students were chanting Big Ned Gives something I cant say. It got so bad the cops came into the stands to shut it down. So Id say that was a bad on us.

I thought I saw the last play of the game (last years) on here somewhere the other day. Anybody?

Things have definitely changed over the years…pranks have gone from burning letters, “spirit” wrapping houses, egging yard signs….etc, to silly chants and exchanging insults on social media…ugh! But it’s still the BEST rivalry in the STATE!!
I just think it’s SAD how much the local coverage of the game has declined! Kinda gotten used to it though, but I’m honestly SHOCKED and VERY disappointed that there’s been virtually NO coverage AT ALL with this year being the 100th game and 10th Anniversary of Bum Phillips passing…SMH!!

I did a job for Coach Derouen several years back and he was telling me that the morning of the game, he woke up to his car being painted purple and white. He had to drive ti to school... with his high school daughter! LOL
