NCAA to give spring sport athletes extra year of eligibility

The NCAA will permit spring sport athletes who had their seasons shortened by the coronavirus outbreak to have an additional year of eligibility.

The NCAA Division I Council voted Monday to give college athletes who compete in spring sports such as baseball, softball and lacrosse a way to get back the season they lost, but did not guarantee financial aid.

Winter sports were not included in the decision. Council members declined to extend eligibility for student-athletes in sports where all or much of their regular seasons were completed.

How much scholarship money will be made available to each athlete will be determined by the athlete's school. The amount could range from nothing to as much the athlete received the year before.

Roster limits will be adjusted to fit returning athletes along with incoming freshman.

Winter sports (basketball) are not included, but I would not mind giving the winter kids a do-over, too. I miss March Madness. I hope COVID-19 does not affect the 2020 high school and college football seasons. I feel bad for the high school seniors who have had their winter/spring sports, proms, and graduations affected by the TPC explosion and now the COVID-19 mess. 2019-2020...what a school year.

Go Indians. Peace.

Just to think this (corona) was going on in China almost halfway into the football season including discovery and coverup. No telling how many cases we actually maybe had here in the US from business travel etc prior to us knowing what we were looking for.

I know 2 people here in Texas, very well, who had the symptoms in mid December. No one was calling anything Corona virus at that time, but you have to wonder.

Dry cough, then harsh flu symptoms, turning into a long lasting cough afterwards with deep lung congestion. And negative flu diagnosis by a clinic.

I suspect only time and much retrospect will ever reveal anywhere near the truth of this. And don’t rule out biowarfare. The origin story doesn’t add up nor does China’s actions.

Three disasters happening to the US at once. Health, economy and energy crisis are crippling us. And threatens the next football season.

Threatening our very existence. We have ruined our economy. Where will the tax dollars come from to pay for all of these make-shift hospitals, small business loan guarantees, stimulus checks, etc. I pray for the future existence of the USA. Strange times.

Go Indians. Peace.
