I was going to make this same commentTexas City...plywood for stands? TCISD, you can do better than that. PN-G's defense is not the biggest or the fastest, but they are in the right spots, they pursue the football, and they get people on the ground. Texas City could not block PN-G's front three on the DL. The Indians DL blew up Texas City all night long. Texas City's Caleb Bell is a nice back, but he's not 225 lbs. He might be 5'8" and around 200 or 205. He got loose on the long run, and credit to him for that, but he wanted no part of PN-G's DL for most of the night. In the 4th quarter, the Texas City QB wanted no part of PN-G's DL. On the other side of the ball, what can you say about PN-G's #33. Tough as nails. He hits the hole with no fear and he's faster than you think. Texas City was loading up on the run, and PN-G's OL just flexed its muscle. I read where some thought the play calling ws conservative. I thought it was just right. PN-G went jumbo with the wildcat and pushed the ball down Texas City's throat. They ran the basic offense and #33 ran wild. When they had to throw the ball, they did it well. You can see #9 getting more and more confidence. He made some nice throws in the first half and then the out route for the last TD was right on the money. Just need to tighten up the kick-off coverage and return game. They will do better. On the return that set-up the safety against us, the kid just had a brain freeze. That's OK. That's fixable. He wanted to make a play, but the muff on the initial grab just threw the timing of the return off. On Texas City's kick-off return, we can tighten up those return lanes. That, too, is fixable. All the kids played hard. The district opponents better get used to Cherokee. They will be hearing it alot. FBM down, Texas City down, Willowridge is next, and then bring on Dayton.
Pretty sad that it’s so hard to find stats nowadays. Full stats used to be readily available for high school games back in the day. In any case, I agree that Conner seems to be developing well as a passer and shows great promise for the future. My only concern is that we will definitely need a much better developed passing game come the playoffs. I hope we make a concerted effort to work on this against some of our weaker opponents (where the ultimate outcome is less in question than has been the case during the last couple of games).Don’t have complete stats but we can see 7 completions for 119 yards and 2 TDs on the highlight video.
He looked really calm being a sophomoreWhat were the stats on PNG's QB? I was impressed with the progress that he made since last week.
A block in the back on the first tackler and a crackback block on another likely tackler.I believe there was a missed block in the back call that kept that touchdown on the board.
Like I said on another SETX football forum, that schmooze job the TC superintendent did on the Refs prior to the opening kickoff really worked out for them, but not quite. There were several non calls on TC, and some convenient little holding calls, and an USLC call, on PNG. Not to mention the clock, down marker, and the scoreboard (although the refs on the field seemed to have the clock and the score in hand).A block in the back on the first tackler and a crackback block on another likely tackler.
