The 2022 Texas high school football season kicks-off for PN-G on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., when the Indians host the Port Arthur Memorial Titans. Thoughts? Discussion? Go Indians.

Will be a tough test for both teams to start the season. Indian D will need to quickly adjust to the speed of the Titans offense. On the other side of the ball the Indian O should be able to pound the rock and pick up where they left off with the passing game. Hoping the Indians can limit penalties and turnovers.

I hope the new coaching staff experiences a full house and the Reservation at it's finest.

I'm worried this game could get ugly in favor of PAM. PN-G had one scrimmage, and no offense to LC-M, but that scrimmage with the Bears probably didn't simulate the size and speed that PAM will bring to Port Neches. It may take PN-G a half or three quarters to settle in against the open field speed of PAM. I look for PN-G's biggest improvements to come during weeks two and three. It's hard to get game ready with two weeks of pads and one scrimmage. It may take the new OC and DC two or three games to find what works and what doesn't work. I hope that I am wrong. I'd love for the Indians to come out red hot.

Very good points. The greatest concern is the defense which has many of the starters from last season. Have they improved? We shall see very soon.

By watching the scrimmage I too agree that we are not ready. I think we will be a very solid team, it will just take a couple of weeks. Defense looked much improved and the energy on the sideline was better than it has been in a long while. We will be ready for district for sure.

New schemes, new approach, new coaches. There would be a transition cost at any level but it will settle down and better and better results will follow.

A loss to Memorial won’t be a big deal. What matters is how they fight all 4 quarters. One play at a time, one 1-1 battle at a time. 100% effort with awareness of covering assignments and proper technique every play.

But no reason to concede a likely defeat. Memorial is playing their first game as well and this is a veteran PNG team.

2022 Preview (DCTF)

Coach: Brian Morgan. Lettermen R/L: 12/29. Starters returning O/D: 3/5. 2021: 8-3 bi-district finalist/6-1 district. Key losses: Jaylon Guilbeau (Texas), Jah’mar Sanders (New Mexico), Christian Thomas (Northwestern State).
Players to watch: OL Cayden Bowie (6-4, 275), CB Jelani Chevalier (5-10, 170, 4.4), DB Daevon Iles (6-0, 180, 4.5), LB Darrell Thornton (6-1, 220, 4.7), DE Caden Pitre (6-1, 215, 4.7), OL Danny Jaramillo (6-3, 260). Top juniors: WR/DB Quinton Harper (5-10, 170, 4.4), DT Harvey Jones (6-0, 260). Top sophomore: DE Michael Riles (6-3, 235, 4.8).
Other prospects: QB Davion Wilson, DB Jacori Smith-Jackson, DB Jayce Robertson, OL Kyle Morales, K Luis Blanco, DE Kentrell Roberts, OL J’Marin Payne, RB Ja’Coryn Baker.
2022 notes: The Titans lose a good senior class that featured three Division I signees and although the 2022 squad will have a lot of new faces, Morgan says the talent is still there and he expects Memorial to challenge for a district title. “We are young at the skill spots, but this group is super talented,” Morgan said. The offensive line is the strength of the offense early with Bowie and Jaramillo leading the way, as Bowie holds double-digit FBS offers. The defense is where the Titans have the most firepower returning, led by a strong secondary with CB Chevalier and safety Iles returning - both were first-team all-district a year ago. Iles picked off three passes in 2021. LB Thornton (50 tackles) and DE Pitre (6 sacks) also return for the Titans defense, and both were all-district picks a year ago.

If anyone can please scan the coaching and roster pages of the PN-G game program, along with team and band photos, and email to me I would appreciate it. And if one person can buy an extra one and mail it to me, I will cover the costs of the program and the shipping. I can Venmo or Zelle the $ to you. I would like to add the team information to the web site.
