Some quick historical notes for the PN-G fans who, like myself, are so inclined:

  • The Indians' 25 point margin of victory over the Bulldogs is the largest any PN-G team has enjoyed over Nederland since 1992.
  • Through 25 games, Coach Joseph now sports a 21-4 record with the Indians. This is the best start of any PN-G coach to make it to 25 games since Gene McCollum finished his second season with with the Indians 24-1 in 1947. It's the second best start of all time for a PN-G HC. Statistically speaking, he has outperformed even Doug Ethridge and Lew Ford so far (though Ford brought home a state championship ring in his first season, in fairness).
  • This website and Down Trails of Victory make it easier to research PN-G history than it is to do so for any other high school program in Texas. (Thanks, IndianFan.)

I'd like to see the second half stats. From reading the posts, it seemed as if PN-G's defense tightened up and shut down Nederland. Maybe one of the local papers will have Nederland's total yards in the second half? Take away the Ned RB's long run before the end of the first half, and Ned was under 200 yards total for the game. The second half was probably at or under 100? Great adjustments by the DC and defensive staff. Go Indians.
About 100 based on radio stats.

1st half
PNG
190 rushing, 42 passing
Ned 133 rushing, 28 passing

2nd Half
PNG
130 rushing, 37 passing
Ned 42 rushing, 57 passing

Great coaches make adjustments and inspire their team to play better!

The web site is used by local and statewide sports media for a lot of PNG football research. PN-G football history is alive, well and accessible.

DCF was close to being right after all. Actually should have been at least a 2 TD LARGER margin of victory. I still have some concerns about the need for a better developed passing game for the playoffs, and we still have a few other things to clean up between now and then. However, I am not going to worry about anything at all tonight! Overall, a great game by our Indians!

GREAT WIN INDIANS!! Gotta say Nederland’s crowd let me down a little…they packed it out as usual but it was definitely pretty quiet over there from the start! I suppose I’m just used to them always being obnoxiously loud and rowdy for MCM whether they were winning, losing, good season or bad…I kinda missed hearing all that barking and such tonight…lol! Oh well…still the BEST game and atmosphere in the STATE!!

Left at least 15 points on the field (56 vs 41). But tough to complain about 435 yards of offense in a Bum Phillips Bowl game. Tackling on defense broke down on several plays. But credit is due to Nederland players exerting effort to avoid and break tackles and #1 has excellent speed.
Nederland was just overmatched and didn’t have the personnel to compete on the same level. Kudos to Nederland for playing hard. Indians still have room to improve but they’re already a frightening opponent. Excellent adjustments and motivation by the Indians at halftime in this game.

Does anyone have his complete stats (16 games) from 2022? I'm guessing he will finish his career as a PN-G Indian near the top of the all-time leading rushers. He's been an amazing ball carrier for the past two years. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that he was an unknown back-up until the #1 RB last year got hurt? What an outstanding "back-up" #33 has been. He has good vision, patience, he runs tough when he needs to, and he is faster than you think. Terrific RB.

Definitely top 5 before it’s over. Will be tough for him to break into the top 3. I’m guessing he has about 2500-2700 yards in two seasons so far. Mr. Nguyen stood out in spring practice last year. He demonstrated a combination of quickness, cutting ability and tenacity that the other backs did not possess. Tommy Reed was the starter prior to his injury.

Some stats that I found online using Google. Per the Houston Chronicle, take the Houston Chronicle for whatever it's worth, #33 had 1,204 yards and six TDs as a junior. I think those stats are wrong. He had more than six TDs in the playoffs alone. From the Galveston County News, #33 ripped off a 79-yard TD vs. Texas City this season. He also had a 68 yard run @ Dayton this year. Those will put him in the longest run from scrimmage record book kept at www.pngindians.com. Interesting note: #15 had a 61 or 62 yard TD run @ Dayton this year. All those stats = the PN-G run game has been awesome. Credit to the OL.

Unofficially, I have him at 1,348 yards on 225 carries in 2022. Keep in mind that he was injured in the Dayton game last year and went for a 5 game stretch with very few carries. He came back strong against Brenham with 147 yards followed by playoff games of 146, 261 and 159 yards.

If someone wants to follow up on the accuracy, here's the groundwork.
