Cleo Baltimore the long time cook for Billy Joes BBQ has passed away late yesterday evening. He is well known in Port Neches for the thousands of people who honked at him while he waved at all passer byes. Cleo was one of the sweetest and kindest men you would have ever met. Please pray for the Baltimore and Billy Joes Family. His chair is set outside in front of Billy Joes with a cross and flowers on it. Billy Joes is asking in honor of Cleo to please honk your horn when you pass in front of Billy Joes.

Growing up in Port Neches, TX was not without some immediate family loss and hardships. Long story short, I grew up eating Billy Joe's BBQ on a very frequent basis simply because my remaining parent didn't have time or the skillset to cook much. So strangely enough Billy Joe's food was an integral part of my life for many formative years, and I still mentally equate Billy Joe's with nostalgia, and having the best sliced beef and dirty rice on the planet.

I never realized that Mr. Cleo Baltimore was the one doing most of that cooking. So thank you Mr. Baltimore. I suspect the number of kids and parents you prepared food for over those 4+ decades is immeasurable. Goes to show that every occupation and action can have a positive impact on someone in life, no matter how trivial it might seem. Peace to your family and loved ones, and may you have eternal peace with our Lord and Savior.

Even though it's probably been over 40 years since I ate there (although I tried a while back unsuccessfully) I still remember it fondly. Sometimes I mix memories but it seems like there was a wishing well inside back then. (?) We used to walk over from FBC since my dad was on staff there. The reason I still support PNG athletics etc is because of the great nostalgia and traditions the people here (there) create and uphold. I repeat. There is no place like PN(G).
