Great article, great kid, great memories. I wish Roschon Johnson the very best in football and life. Any father would be proud to call him son.

Being an avid Texas Longhorn football fan all my life, I am thrilled to be able to follow a PN-G standout through his career at the University of Texas.

Wondering how RJ is perceived by Texas fans? Here's a sampling from posters on OrangeBlood.com on a Dec 9th thread.

PN-G was blessed to have such a talented and determined student\player for 4 years.

Thanks Roschon

"Just wanted to give a shout out to Roschon Johnson for what he did this year. Put his QB hopes on ice for a year to help the team and wow, what a needed help it was. Dude has earned a few mulligans for this years' contribution and if he wants to try QB again then Herman needs to give him an honest shot at it. Personally want to see him become the next Marcus Allen (QB turned RB) but want him to be happy most of all."

"Agree.. 1000%"

"He balled out this year and bailed out the running back room."

"Here here. Selfless young man."

"Love me some Roschon."

"Quick personal story. I took my 3 and 5 year old to the Kansas game for their first game of their lives. Prior to that, we had watched a couple of games together and my 3 year old decided that Roschon was his favorite player. So at the Kansas game, he kept asking "why is Roschon not in the game?" to which everyone around us stated "we are all wondering the same thing buddy."

"One of my buddies who has season tix with us gave the boys 2 Longhorn ornaments to put up on the tree. My 3 year old named his ornament "Roschon."

"The guy plays with a lot of fight and effort."

"I totally agree. I don't know what kind of QB he would make, but I know he is an excellent RB, with a chance to be special, IMHO. I believe he's better than Ingram right now. Not sure how much of Ingram's "plateau-ing" had to do with our awful OL play, but he we may have seen his ceiling, whereas I think RJ has just scratched the surface."

"your boy couldn't have picked a better young man for a favorite. i understand that the kids in and around his home town love him"

"Tell your 3 year old that Roschon is my favorite player too. Smart kid!"

"Roschon is a very mature and unselfish young man. I am really proud of him for the way he step into the RB position to help out his team. That is the true definition of being a "total team player". My hat goes off to you Roschon. When your career is over here on the Forty, and no matter what position you will be playing...I will always be grateful for the way you put the team first before your early development of playing Quarterback. Well done, Mr. Johnson...WELL DONE!!!"

"Roschon is a baller. The guy is one of those players that epitomizes the term "football player". He is not defined by a position, he just knows how to play the game and is the ultimate team player. No one knows how his Texas career will turn out, but he will always be a favorite of mine just for what he did for the team this year."

"one of the few winners on the team. gimme more Rojo!

"We need more like him, he is a class young man. Congratulations to him and for what he did for the team."

"Could not agree more. This young man is special... in so many ways."

"Was a bright spot. Maximum effort. Great attitude. Wild idea: Wondering if he can be a Taysom Hill type. His athletic ability and body type enable him to do a lot of things. Not sure if he’s an every-down QB, or RB, or WR, but could he be a NFL star as a hybrid with that maximum effort and team-oriented attitude?"

"I'm down with that."

"And an off-season to get bigger, stronger and faster:)"

"He ran with violence like the running backs of old"

"2 baby!"

"Completely agree! And, we all should show more appreciation for the players. I think we sometimes forget these are still 18-21 year old guys."

"headline made me think Roschon was in the portal."

"Good post. Agree that he sacrificed for the team, and I applaud that. I hope he achieves more in the future, whether at RB or QB"

"Roschon exhibited the perfect attitude for an athlete. Not only selfless sacrifice for the team but a fighters attitude in competition. That is the attitude that will allow Texas to move forward in a meaningful way and climb back to the upper echelons of college football and it was fun to watch him on the field..!! Now we just elite coaching to match that elite mindset..!!"

"Roschon showed that he is the ultimate team player by contributing at another postion this year and did a very good job of it. I have a feeling that he will be a success at whatever he puts his mind to both on the 40 acres and when he gets out of school."

"Agree.. 1000%"

"I second that."

"Kid will flat out punish tacklers. love it."

"next year he needs to be on the field 70-80% of the time. I don't care how. I just know he will produce and provide energy."

"My heart skipped a beat when I saw the title of this post. The way my brain works these days I assumed he had a major inury or had entered the transfer portal. Along with Duvernay, he and RoJo were by far my favorite players this year."

Former great, all state Indian linebacker who I admire, let’s face it, we support different teams. I’m a Longhorn fan since my earliest days and many decades before RJ stepped on their field.

Good luck to the Aggies! More luck to Roschon and the Horns!!

Roschon Johnson was a great RB for Texas in 2019. A great teammate and leader by example. He should be the face of the UT program...a team first, incredible talent on and off the field. Why wouldn't you want his picture as the face of the UT program? He is a natural leader and WINNER! I am a UH graduate, but I root for other Texas teams, too. I'm following UT because of Roschon Johnson. I hope like crazy that UT puts him back at QB. I think he could do amazing things for UT at the QB spot. He could be Vince Young 2.0 at the QB spot...except a better passer. He can throw it all over the field with accuracy. When a play breaks down, he could go off script and create something out of nothing! He can create his own success when the play breaks down. Here's to Roschon having a great (injury free) 2020!

Go Indians! Peace.

Comments made all in good faith, trust me. The kid is an amazing athlete and better young man. He’s the only reason I will watch when the horns are on!

I just hope he gets more playing time. RJ was better than Ingram who had the advantage of a year at UT, but Herman stuck with Ingram instead of letting RJ get more reps to advance his experience and confidence level.

Now Texas is bringing in the #1 rated high school back in the nation (Bijan Robinson). Also the second coming of Christ at QB, according to some UT fans , Hudson Card. And the standout QB from Duncanville, Ja'Quinden Jackson. And of course Jordan Whittington is also in the RB room and is assumed to be the next great back for the Horns. All RJ does is put in an outstanding freshman year, especially since he just converted over to RB, show more heart and guts than most on that team, and produce. But I continue reading statements that he's too slow and can't throw.

So I'm hoping RJ works hard and keeps improving, crushes these other guys in spring ball, and leaves no doubt who should be playing. Otherwise the portal may be his best option after 2020.

If he’s passed up by Card in any way I do hope he transfers. And this comes from a life long UT fan. As we all know here he has the best “intangibles” of any player (I’ve seen in 40+ years of following football closely) I never saw him make a bonehead mistake ever (which is to be expected sometimes) you look at him on the surface stats and you think “this guy is well above average” but then you see the plays he pulls off and you’re amazed several times during the course of the game. As I told some friends this year I believe he was “playing within himself” all season. Yes, giving 100% but not trying for the “Roschon” play as we saw him do constantly. But I believe WHEN he gets back to QB as he should be (IMO he’s an NFL caliber QB) we’ll see the REAL Roschon come back out. I’m shocked and dismayed when I hear people say “he needs work on his mechanics” he has better mechanics than 99% of QBs out there at any level. And has had since his Freshman year IMO (he caught my eye in the pregame of the Dayton playoff game his Fr year (warmup)

He needs to transfer. Too far down on the QB and RB depth charts. By 2021 he'll be an afterthought. Unfair, but that is college recruiting these days.
