From what I've heard, due to injuries at Running Back, the UT coaches are looking at RJ for RB position. Might be interesting, but I was really hoping they wouldn't re-position him.

Edit: Name spelling.

Re: Roshan Johnson

There’s rumor and here-say about that on orangebloods.com, but nothing definitive.

RJ faces a lot of competition at QB. Hudson Card is the next phenom that everyone is saying will inherit the job from Ehlinger.

But that’s all talk. RJ will have an opportunity to change their minds. But he will have to improve quickly. Word is he’s struggling with the speed of the game and the system.

Re: Roshan Johnson

I would leave RJ at QB and let him use 2019 as his red shirt season. He is not an athlete playing QB. He is a QB that happens to be an elite athlete. He throws the best deep ball that I have ever seen from a HS QB. At PN-G he read defenses, went through progressions, and he usually delivered solid passes to the right WR. He will adjust to the speed of the college game. It takes time and patience. RJ has both on his side. If Texas brings him along, he will be a superstar. He has the "it" factor. If things did not work out for him at Texas, I would beg, borrow, and steal to have him play at Houston. RJ reminds me of a bigger Greg Ward, Jr. GWJ was tough as nails and he always found a way to make a great play. That is what RJ did for the Indians. D'Eriq King graduates from Houston after this season...we'll have a nice spot available for RJ. Ha-ha.

Go Indians. Peace.

Rj is a great athlete but his chose of Texas was concerning for me cause of all the recruiting at QB. This saying it’s his decision where he played. I just don’t think he will change his position from QB to running back just to play at Texas imo he will transfer before that happens. I hope he sticks with QB even if it’s somewhere else, I will follow him with what ever decisions he makes. Good luck RJ stay the course son we are proud of you.

Re: Roshan Johnson

He’s grown up wanting to play at UT.

But as you said thats going to come with a lot of competition.

Of course the hype around Hudson Card and the other kid coming in after him is not a guarantee that those players will beat out Roschon. RJ will hand down be the best running threat. He just had to work on his passing mechanics and learning the offense.

I saw him listed as running back somewhere as well. He has the best mechanics of any QB on the roster. If UT messes up and loses him that will be a big mistake.

From To, Herman's recent press conference:

"- Herman said that it was a "wise move" to not force Jake Smith to cross-train at RB and instead utilize the running skill of backup QB Roschon Johnson at RB in case of an emergency."

Also from a fan remarking about that conference:

"Level of concern at RB is high. Were supposed to have five RBs. Derrian Brown will not play this year. Kirk Johnson and Daniel Young getting hurt with injuries that will sideline them for several weeks. Ingram is doing well. Jordan Whittington fighting some residual effects of sports hernia he had in high school that flares up from time to time. Roschon Johnson playing some tailback the last week just to get him up to speed in case of emergency."

Re: Roshan Johnson

Per Orangebloods today, Johnson met with the staff on Monday and expressed his desire to play running back this season. He no longer wanted to be an emergency option, but was willing to play behind Ingram and Whittington. After the meeting, Johnson’s move became more solidified.

BTW, there are nothing but respectful and positive comments on the UT forums about Roschon and his selfless mindset. And how impressed they are with his warrior approach. Whatever he does he’ll be great at it.

Re: Roshan Johnson

From what I've read, this was only as an emergency situation due to the need at RB due to injury at that position and RJ stepped up to fill the role as a good team player. Hopefully he is back at QB and will make his mark that way. Does anyone know how he has looked at practices etc? I know a while back Herman indicated he was happy with his progress, but it takes time to get adjusted to the speed of things compared to HS football.

Knowing RJ he see’s a chance to play. He’s on the inside, he knows the situation at running back better then most. Playing QB right away is not gonna happen and he knows it. I don’t see anything wrong with going this route. He gets the best of Both worlds. JMO

How many kids on the planet can only dream of being a Texas Longhorn.

This is his chance to get on the field sooner and give it his best shot. To make his mark.
It will all be over in a flash anyway so go for any chance to make a name. I predict he will be a standout running back.

The kid just wants to play. Imagine being a 3 year high school superstar to watching your teammates play has to tough. I know his dream is to play at Texas but if you wanna make a career out of playing football transferring might not be a bad idea. I’m sure he could go else where and start at QB now. JS

For some reason, I don't think this is permanent. He wasn't going to play QB this year anyhow and he wanted to help the team due to the need at RB...and while he was never a RB as we know, RJ can definitely run. That said, I hope he ultimately redshirts this season and gets back to playing qb which we all know he can excel at if given the chance.

Re: Roshan Johnson

Someone told me or I heard he was a RB early on maybe 7th 8th grade. Maybe it was his grandfather. Of course that’s different. But he was PNG’s running back for 3 years. (No disrespect to the other RB’s who played their role well) I actually hope he gets some carries this year. I know everyone saw Whittington’s performance in the HS Finals last year so that’s going to be a great 1-2 if Ingram is good (healthy)(older brother of the other Carthage RB?) I think.
